Gringa Longbow goes Walkabout!!!
Well my 6 week NT trip has arrived, got a quick 800km drive in the morning once I finish my last night shift. Then a good nights sleep and straight into the hunting. Wednesday morning we'll head out hiking for 3-4 days after a Buffalo with a possibly of a Donkey.
I drove up to work nearly three weeks ago and have so far clocked up 4000km. I managed a quick solo hunt before my two week shift started. Managed to get a young Scrub Bull with my Gringa D/R Longbow. It was difficult moving him by myself for photos, not to mention I forgot to take my tripod for the camera. I'm super happy with the Gringa's performance, the 930gn arrows i'm using both passed straight through him, with a broadside hit at 27m and a second down hill shot, quartering front on at a bit over 20m.
A big thank you to Rod for an awesome bow.....Cheers Mate
I'll hopefully be posting a few more kills in the coming weeks...Muzza

Congratulations on taking the scrub bull. You can't ask for more than a complete penetration, so obviously your equipment is well and truly up to the task. Well done!!
I don't think I'd like to tackle those big boys without a rifle back up. I remember reading about Pedro's nasty experience of a few years back, when things went horribly wrong. I'm too unfit these days to run out of sight in a heavy fog.
I'm looking forward to hearing about your buff.

There is no use focusing on aiming if you don't execute the shot well enough to hit what your are aiming at.
Re: Gringa Longbow goes Walkabout!!!
Well done.
If you don't mind me asking, what poundage and type arrows, etc? Did you get right into the FOC thing or just heavy? I am always interested in the equipment used.
Cheers.

The broadhead used, regardless of how sharp, is no where as important as being able to place it in the correct spot....!

Re: Gringa Longbow goes Walkabout!!!
Cheers guys, quick update......have seen heaps of Buff but haven't been able to get the right angle or distance I'm happy with. Winds been swirling and driving us nuts but my hunting partner has managed his first Buff, a cow at 30m. He's shooting a 70lb compound with 710gn arrows and had a pass through. He also scored himself his first Donkey. I have managed to get 3 pigs along the way, all sows unfortunately. All 3 were quick shots with no time to think as they surprised us as they burst from there beds. Just enough time to get an arrow on the string and let fly as they stop for the quick look back. Furthest shot was 25m quartering away. We have seen a couple of big boars but the wind stuffed us up before we could get organized.
All our hunting has been by hiking while carrying a 14kg backpack. Nearly all our shots have been while wearing the packs. Certainly loosing weight as it's 37deg most days. We managed to get a 50cm Barra for dinner the first night hiking, Buff back straps for the second and butterflied piglets for the third. The fourth we had dehydrated meals.
Just in town getting some supplies then back into it for a week hike.
Apologies for any typo's as on phone.
Cheers Muzza
Bow is 82#@31" and I'm shooting 925-930gn carbon arrows with 25% FOC

Re: Gringa Longbow goes Walkabout!!!
Defineately have thanks Rod and need it as I'm in the sun all day.
Well it's been an exciting few days. Got charged by an angry sow and had to use Betty, my Longbow to deflect the pig. Got it all on my GoPro as well. I'll share that later
But the best news is I got a Bull Buffalo. Shot him at 7m while he was laying in the water of a creek. Managed to get above him and shot down on him hitting in the top of the shoulder and punching through the bottom of the far shoulder. Pretty sure got lungs heart, I was able to quickly get a second arrow on and as he stood I hit him again. Quartering away through the ribs and out the far shoulder. He made it 7m and it was game over. Photos to follow in a week or so.
Cheers Rod for Betty, she did the job perfectly

Pulled up in Darwin for a few days with my family before we head out to Coburg in Arnhem Land on Thursday night for 8 days hunting. Thought I'd share my charging pig video now that I have WIFI.

Re: Gringa Longbow goes Walkabout!!!
Hunting trip is over and back at work, only a lazy 3000km drive home in a weeks time. Here's a few photos from Coburg west Arnhem Land where we spent 8 days thanks to John and Karen Valery. It was nice to meet you guys and thanks for putting us up for the night.
The wind was very swirly at times, typical for the build up but we both managed some good boars. It was great to re-visit that part of the world. I love stalking right up to those massive boars. Shots were usually between 2-6m with the furthest about 12m. I'll post a few more photos when I get home.
Nice Bantang Bull at 45m
Boar shot at 2m, only had one hook but if doubled went 31 4/8
Mates best pig, also had a brocken tusk but only missing and inch on the bad hook. measured 30DP but the good hook would have gone 32 4/8 if doubled.
the 30DP Boar,
My best Boar for the trip, 29 2/8

Re: Gringa Longbow goes Walkabout!!!
Hi mate what bows were used and what draw weights?
Cheers

Re: Gringa Longbow goes Walkabout!!!
The Buff and fist couple of pigs were taken with a 66" Gringa 82# @ 31" until she de-laminated during a club shoot in Darwin.
I then used a Klaus longbow that I took up as a spare which is around the 72# mark at a guess for the big boars out at Coburg.
