More sticks and feathers
Just avoiding work for a few minutes, so thought I'd bung up some not very good pics of my latest bunch of sticks and feathers. These are rather subdued by my usual standards. Just a simple black, red, grey, white combination. All 62-63lb spine and within a couple of grains of 535.
If they look a touch scruffy, it's because they did four days of 3D on Norfolk Island last week - which I can definitely recommend. It's a beautiful spot, a great course, great people and excellent food.
Would also have posted shots of sets I recently made for Howard O'Connell (in exchange for an Osage self bow) and Pamela at HVTA (she won the charity shoot arrow raffle), but I forgot to take pics.

Well Graydon,
We both won. And while Cecilia was the only female longbower, she beat half the blokes. In fact, she was only 24 points of the bloke in second place overall.
So now you know.

Re: More sticks and feathers
Hi Andy mate another set of beautiful arra's (for Sue); what glue do you use on your feathers and what draw weight is that LB of Cecilia's?(apologies if spelt incorrectly)
Re: More sticks and feathers
Not sure if the glue question was for me but, I use Goat Tuff on alloys etc, and just regular Fletchtite on woods etc. They both work fine. The issue of fletches coming off is more do with whether you've crowned your arrows, and with what. It's the paint that tends to give way rather than the glue. Glue seems to stick well to most cap wraps from what I've seen.Ian Turner wrote:Hi Andy mate another set of beautiful arra's (for Sue); what glue do you use on your feathers and what draw weight is that LB of Cecilia's?(apologies if spelt incorrectly)
Cecilia's bow is a Norseman Priestess (boo limbs, white glass, Purpleheart riser), 34lb @ 26 inches.
So there you go.

Re: More sticks and feathers
Hi Andy,
Thanks for that,
Why I asked about Cecilia's bow weight (i should have said) is that as I am coming down in weight myself i wondered what sort off draw weight a person could use and still be competitive and seeing Ceciliás performance at Rob's and how she went at Norfolk I am using that as some sort of guide I guess.
When it comes to crowning is there any paint you find better than others and indeed is theer any that you have had problems with?
The comment i made re Sue was the word arras; she gets a bit excitable when I use that term; heh Sue.
Cheers

Re: More sticks and feathers
Ian,
Cecilia's bow goes fairly well (i.e. shoots quite flat for a light bow) because the arrows I made for her are matched to it. They're 5/16, around 9 grains per pound of draw weight all up, 100 grain points, and use a fairly low 3 inch fletch. These go well around 3D courses where there's nothing much beyond 30 metres.
Paint-wise on crowns, I've found that water based, spray enamels can be an issue. That said, I haven't had many issues with water based paints when the crowns are dipped rather than sprayed.
