Black Griffin 3D event Sunday 21st March 2010

#1 Post by Mick Smith » Mon Feb 01, 2010 4:41 pm

I am very pleased to announce the Black Griffin's 3D event, which will take place at Jarvis Oval, Deakin University, Waurn Ponds, Geelong on Sunday March 21st 2010.

This will be a 'trad only' event, for historical bows and modern laminated longbows/recurves. It's a one day event, as we don't have the necesarry permission to camp overnight on the Deakin University grounds.

We will have 30 x 3D targets set out on 3 separate courses, much the same as we had last year. Also, like last year, will will host the biggest and most exciting flu-flu / flying disk event in Victoria straight after the 3D is finished.

Only wooden arrows fletched with feathers will be eligible for the prizes, but feel free to use your synthetic arrows if you're not fussed about that sort of thing.

Breakfast and lunch, as well as hot beverages and cold drinks will be available on the day at the usual low prices.

The shoot will kick off at 9.30am sharp, after a warm up session at the practice butts. The 'Lilydale' rules will apply for the 3D event. For those who are not familiar with the "Lilydale rules', you can shoot up to two arrows per target, but only the last arrow shot will be the scoring one. These rules add a whole new dimension to the event, where you can push your luck to the limit, if you're cocky enough (or silly enough :D ).

You will need to bring approximately 8 to 12 field arrows and 6 flu-flu arrows. If you don't own any flu-flus, don't worry as the club has plenty which you will be able to borrow on the day.

We sincerely hope that the Victorian trad archer community will support Victoria's only 'tradional only' club by attending this event.

Don't forget, it's now very easy to get to the Jarvis Oval, as the Geelong Ring Road is now complete right through to the venue. Once you get to the end of the Ring Road (where the traffic lights are), you turn right and travel for about 200 metres to the next intersection where you turn right again (into Pigdons Rd). The main entrance to Deakin Uni is only a few hundred metres up the road, on the left. It's less than one kilometre from the end of the Ring Road, so there's no excuse for not coming. :)

Come and enjoy some of the nicest 3D terrain in the state. You will find our target placement very interesting. The distances will generally be rather short, but they will still be challenging to our more experienced competitors. We will have some extreme up hill and down hill shots. The absolute maximum range for the adult shooters will be 30 metres, but most shots will be considerably closer than this. It will be a great day out.

The offical flyer for this event will be posted sometime in the near future.

Mark this shoot down on your calendars. Don't miss it. I hope to see you there. :D

Asked Management, I've been given a double pass for the week end, so now all I need to do is find a bow that'll assist my shoulder recovery. I'll make up some arrows to last the week end, then I hope to see you all there on Sunday. What about you Mike-dy? 8) ...........Bill

Thanks fellas. It will be great if you can make it on the big day.

We will do our best to make it something special and very memorable. The Black Griffins have some very experienced and skillful members. You can be sure the 3D course will be something special, with some appeal for everyone, from beginners to experts.

The aerial disk event will be heaps of fun too. We take this style of shooting very seriously (although you wouldn't know it, with all the fun and laughter). Our rules allow competitors to shoot a total of 6 arrows at a maximum of 8 targets, per round. This allows competitors to pass on two targets that might have been poorly thrown or hit before you've released. We plan to offer a full range of prizes for this event, as well as the 3D.

I'll see you on the 21st.

G'day Rod

Well mate, originally we were going to have just a junior's division, as we weren't really expecting many cub shooters. There might not much point in having a cub division if there's only going to be one or two cubs there.

I suppose it wouldn't be too hard to have one though.

Sometimes the presentations seem to get out of hand, particularly when there's huge numbers of them to be awarded.

It would be sort of nice to see the cubs fronting up proudly for their prizes. 8)

I'll put it to the BG committee members and get back to you by PM. :D

Hey Rod, I hope you got my PM regarding the divisions for the BG 3D 2010. After much discussion we decided to keep things simple, and go for just 'mens' womens' and 'juniors' for the event.

We will offer prizes for the users of 'modern trad bows' and for 'historical bows' in both the 3D comp, as well as the flu-flu event.

The Black Griffins now have the use of some new and impressive 3D targets, so it should be even better than last year's event.

So everyone, please come along. We need some accomplished shooters to give Gav a run for his money. :D

Hi all,
attached is a flyer for this event. Please inform us if you are coming to allow us to cater, as anyone who has run a shoot knows it is very hard to get it right unless we know numbers.

Looking forward to making the most of our fantastic terrain at Geelong!

thanks

Gav

Hi All,
the event is fast approaching if you haven't registered yet please do, we need to know numbers for catering etc, your help in this would be most appreciated. We are laying out the course this weekend and expect to have a course ready that makes the very most of the variety of terrain we have on offer at Geelong.

cheers

That's good news Len.

Hey Rod, that's very kind of you mate. I'll have your apron ready. Which would you rather do, cook the snags, or the bacon and eggs? :D

Nah, just joking mate. :D I knew what you meant.

So far, the event is shaping up to be the best one yet.

G'day folks,

Don't forget to bring your flu-flus to the BG3D10 event. We will be spending some time shooting aerial disks, so if you have your own flu-flu arrows, that's great, but if you don't own any, you will be able to borrow some club ones. The flu-flu event will be a series of heats, followed at the end of the day with the 'final'. It should be heaps of fun.

Gav and I marked out the 3D course on the weekend and it's going to be a cracker. It will be composed of a total of 30 x 3D targets layed out on three separate (10 target) courses.

It should be a good day. I'm looking foward to it. 8)

It will be great to see you at our event Amanda. The Black Griffins and the Lilydale Bowmen have a history of supporting each other. 8)

That is a pity Bill. Maybe we will all be able to get together at the next trad shoot. There's the Lilydale Trad shoot later this year, perhaps you might attend that shoot. I'll be there. Oh, and by the way, I will take heaps of photos for you. :)

The Black Griffin 3D event 2010, will be our most cultured event yet. Believe it or not, we will actually have a toilet! :)

Just a week to go folks!!!! Don't forget your flu-flus.
