Nothing bias at all.............just hard to get to all the trad shoots in the region ......bad timing when Gladstone hold the 'Longbow and Recurve Muster' just 2 weeks from this proposed shoot.......
Would be an advantage for clubs to talk to each other.....share shoot calendars and try to promote as many shoots without being detrimental to other club shoot dates...... They also have as part of this shoot the 'Billy Baker trans Tasman shoot so just a bit of a concern that 'Bills 'good old name is just going to put on shields just to get people to attend......
Lets not waste his name and let him truly be remembered for the right reasons.........
These are just my thoughts and please forgive me if I have stood on anyones toes with my outburst on here earlier.
I do appologise.

I hope the shoot is a great success as I know all these shoots are for one reason or another.......
Become the arrow..........
Watch it all the way to the target.......

Bill was inducted into the Ausrtalian Archery Hall of Fame last year.
The Bill Baker shield, has been put up by them for their traditional shoots.
Sorry about the timing, we have been fighting for a long time to be able hold an
open traditional shoot through ABA.
We now have that approval and need support from as many Trad shooters as possible
so we can continue to hold this kind of event.

Thanks Grunter Hunter for your explaination as I was wondering what you meant. I think it is just great to have another Trad shoot for people to attend and I'm sure people will be able to go to both the Nanango shoot and the Muster at Glastone.

Keith, that is amazing that ABA are allowing the shoot to be an open one - about time. The LB100 in Vic was also like this.

Be aware this club is a ABA club. This is not a new club this is an effort of ABA to muscle in on our style of shooting

Mrc not sure why you mention this as it is clearly explained in the posts above that the shoot is open to all Trad Archers. :?

Hi Grunter Hunter,

I understand what you're saying, however - the Trans Tasman shoot was started by Bill prior to 2005, at the Gladstone Muster, and a few of us actually went over to the TePuke Trad shoot in NZ 2005/2006 to "defend" it - of course with Bruce and Amber in the NZ team on home turf, what can you do, but just have fun.

The Hall of Fame shield has already been explain by Keith, so Bills name is not just being used to "get people to shoots", it is being used to honour his good name and the support that he gave to Traditional archery.

I hope I will see you at both of the Borambah and Gladstone shoots.

Having 2 shoots close together is a good thing for us up here we can get two shoots in, a few of us where probably going down for the Gladstone shoot, now with another shoot so close it makes the 36 hour drive down and back and a couple of weeks leave better value for us.

Do you mind me asking why that is Keith? I mean how do these AAHOF shoots work; does the AAHOF pay for the targets and trophies etc and get a cut of the profits?
or
Do they get a good proportion of the nomination money only because their name is used for the shoot?
or
Did your club just decide to give the AAHOF a good proportion of the nomination money?

I am interested in how these shoots operate and who the money is going to as I'm sure others are also.

Thanks

Jeff

When we received approval to hold the trad shoot, our club decided to approach the AAHOF&M to offer our support.
The Hall of Fame have different shields for all aspects of Archery, trad being The Bill Baker Shield, the idea is that the shield go from AAHOF&M shoots from state to state and to keep the names of inductees alive for generations to come.
The AAHOF&M have given us the shield which we have the winners names engraved on and that goes to the next AAHOF&M shoot.
Trophies, targets and the running of the shoot are club responsibilities. We are donating a good proportion of nominations to the Australian Archery Hall of Fame and Museum.
regards Keith

Hay Keith, Thanks for the answer. A mate from Cairns who went down to the hall of fame thing was telling me about the Bill Baker Shield deal and when I sore it on the flyer I thought that this must be what he was talking about. Looking foward to catching up.
