met the Newcastle guys at the Murwillumbah shoot last year - sounds like a really good shoot, but don't forget for those of you living in Qld there is a Traditional Shoot (Longbow/Recurve Muster) on at Gladstone the same weekend, which is also a really good shoot.
Oh me, oh my decisions, decisions..........

Hi Sue, welcome to Ozbow!

Yes, I know the Gladstone shoot is a good'un, but unfortunately it's a bit far. I want to get up to QLD to catch up with some of the Ozbow hard cases like Jeff and Glenn some time this year anyway, and would really like to get to meet the Hunter guys. So this sounds like the right time!

cheers,

:)

sounds great, cant wait!! :D

Trish,
as i have never been to a trad only shoot before, could you give me (and anyone else)
an idea of what sort of things go on during the weekend?

such as: what kind of shootin (3D, flu flu, etc....) any kind of demos? any fun, non archery things?
i don't mean to ask too much, its just that i don't want to travel
all the way there to find out theres an event that i didn't know about and could have had a go at. ( :x D'OH!)

any info would be greatly appreciated :D

 that explains everything! the 3DAAA newsletter has it advertised so that poeple (including me! :) )
think its actually at Glenrowan, (the town in victoria!). and not at a property called GLENROWAN

thanks
Matt

Thanks Trish,
I'll be there, recurve tot'n kids and all.
Still trying to sort out accommodation, those contacts will help. Mid winter camping too scary for this Queensland crew.

I guess the gear spec's are same as most trad shoots?
Min 12"feather, wooden arrows etc?
Flu flu's needed?
I am going to have to get stuck into finding shafts and making arrows for kids and I as 95% of my hunting is done with alloys.

Might have to put together a tidier lookin bow as the old offsider is showing the miles she has done in the bush.

Anyone else got definite plans to be there?

Hi there all

Well it's just six weeks to the Gathering. Look forward to all that are attending. So far there are quite a few new shooters, so we look forward to seeing them.

The shoot will consist with a 30 3d target hunting range on Saturday and a 20 3d target hunting range on Sunday.

Our noveties are: running pig, speed round, flu flu, axe & knife event, broadhead range and wand shoot.

For the kids we have a Pinata at this stage.

As I said before, look forward to seeing you all there, should be a good weekend.

Trish. :D

thanks for that Trish.

you mentioned in your post with the map that arrangements can be made to camp earlier in the week, is it possible to stay the monday night (end of the weekend) and leave Tuesday?

also, just wondering what's a wand shoot?

thanks
Matt

Hi Matt

Your answer to "WHAT IS A WAND SHOOT" is

for the wand shoot there is a $2 entry fee per shooter
all shooters line up on a designated shooting line and fire
a number of arrows at a target 3 inches wide by 6 foot high (the wand)
at a designated distance, approx. 70 metres or so or where ever we decide to put it. Whoever hits the wand (arrows must remain sticking in the wand count) wins the kitty. If more than one shooter hits the wand there is a shoot off.

Hope this helps explains it
As for camping, you may stay till Tuesday morning as there may be others also.

Trish,
you might wanna try Al Alcorn for the target. he makes Canga Targets. (authorised copies of Mackenzies) you may have seen them if you have ever been to a 3Daaa shoot down that way.

i don't think he makes anything as big as a buffalo (yet) but i ain't seen him in a while so that may have changed.

can be contacted through his home club at http://caboolturebowmen.3daaa.com/

cheers
