World Traditional Archery Festival 2009

#1 Post by Bede » Mon Aug 03, 2009 11:48 am

I have asked by the organiser of the World Traditional Archery Festival 2009 in Taean, South Korea, to find a New Zealand and a Pacific Islands Traditional archer to take part in this years festival.

There will be representatives from about thirty countries present. There will be individual demostrations from different archery cultures and contests based on tradition modes of shooting.

The advandtages are that there is the possibility of half the airfare to Korean being subsidised. All accommodation and most of the travel expenses are covered. Food is also provided. You fly into Incheon Airport near Seoul and catch a bus to the site. After that, the organisers take care of everything. At the end of the events, you are taken back to the airport. There will be archery demonstrations, including bow making and arrow making. Depending on the people attending, there will be Mongolian target shooting (sur targets of leather), Korean target shooting (at 140 metres) and a selection of other traditional tecniques.

The accommodation is dormitory style with shared rooms. There is a lot of socialising and exchange of ideas. The food is predominantly Korean, tasty and spicy, but you can select carefully if you have dietary difficulties. The hosts try to make adjustments for special needs.

The disadvantage is the fact that the event starts in September on the 10th. You have to contact the organisers quickly. I can provide details to anyone interested. Places are limited.
