Thanks for letting us know Hue. You say they encourage non AA members to attend, but can non members actually win events with full recognition? I didn't think they could. Not that it will be a problem for me though. I'll be happy enough to shoot for the heck of it. :D

Good bunch of folks.
Fair few longbows there, from memory.
I shot bare bow bear last year think I'll have a crack at the longbow this time. 8)

Michelle

this is the Archery Victoria (which is affiliated to Archery Australia of which you were a member of last financial year) Clout championship. it is run on behalf of AV! you must be a registered member of AV/AA to win or place!
however, those who wish to shoot outside of the registered, governing body are welcome to shoot by invitation of Waverley archers but you cannot claim any records or win.
as Mick said in a previous post, you can go for the fun of it and Waverley do know how to have fun!

Q) Archery Uniforms? or white with a touch of tradition..I assume any normal garb is suitable.

Its going to be a busy couple of weeks, luckily I dont have wheels or they might wear out and fall off. :)

Yep normal garb is totally acceptable. In fact, I think I'd prefer to see traditional clout kept more 'serious' as a proper and serious pursuit. I don't know, but somehow the wearing of period garb somehow makes it seem a little less serious.

Don't get me wrong, I have nothing against the wearing of period costume at all. In fact, I've been known to indulge from time to time. It just seems to me, that the state titles should be taken very seriously and not perhaps made into some sort of a mockery. It just doesn't seem to be the place for it somehow.

I'm probably just being paranoid. Perhaps the period clothing will lighten the atmosphere and make the even that much more enjoyable, without cheapening the value of the traditional titles. :D

I agree Mick, while Clout may not be taken seriously by our wheelie brothers and sisters it is certainly that way with trad archers. Clout is the quintessential trad event as far as I am concerned it is about shooting in the style that made archery king of the battlefield. To my mind dressing up is diminishing the credibility of clout state titles in a time where it is already struggling for exisitance in competition format. We always try to support Waverelys event, they have done a fantastic job of keeping the Clout flame alive, and the state titles is the pinnicle of that for us Victorians, I hope it can continue as such.

Yep, I agree as well, there's plenty of events where you can dress up for a bit of fun, this is the state titles after all.

wrong, wrong and wrong guys!
i know what you guys are saying and almost agree.
but when Yarra ran the clout about 5 - 6 years ago we gottem to dress up and 90 archers turned up.
the next year, the president of AV said no more, we need decorum etc. this is the state target etc etc.
all whites or club uniforms (read that to mean neat casual)
35 turned up!
wear what you will, Kirsten is being mischievious and loving it!

What uniform  Green tights little felt hat. Settle down Hue I'm not dressing up again.
All white sounds like lawn bowls. Now that would be a laugh. I guess if you can't win then uniform is fairly informal.

Okay folks, who won? Who were our place getters in the trad section?

It would have been a great day for it, with no rain and light winds. 8)

I decided not to come, as I'm still recovering from a bout of the flu.

Well, I just found out!! It's official. Our very own Gavin Downs, otherwise known as White Hawk and also the proprieter of Wildwood Archery, was the clear winner of the most important division, the traditional longbow division. Well done Gav!!!! Hazzah!!!! :D

I don't know who came second, but I believe that our Stephen Georgiou came in 3rd. Well done to you too Stephen.

thanks mick,
Gavin score was freaky
His score was also higher than the barebow recurves and quite a few of the sighted compounders.
Beautiful to watch - Well done Gavin. Watch your back next year
It didn't matter how much heckling we gave him or every time Gav told me not to tell him what his score was (which I then went on to tell him) he shot like a champion.
So again Gavin well done mate!

you got that right Mick!
still state Masters Clout champ and i even helped Zoltan (my lifelong adversary and Horsebow shooter) get his arrows up to the clout after he couldn't get the distance.
was a great day shooting with those guys (onya Tony) and quite a few new longbow faces.
well done to Gavin, at one end, i watched him shoot 10,9,9,9,9,7. he was on fire!

Great to hear the news, it was a magic day but Jacqui is still recovering from a cold and the kids were in no mood to drag along with grumpy heads and snuffles and I thought it best to play the good hubby and stay home.I also had a stack of things around the house that needed doing.

Maybe next year.
