North Albert 2009 - Day 2.

#1 Post by GrahameA » Sun Apr 12, 2009 4:32 pm

Day 1 Photos

Afternoon All

Another great day. This time I took the correct turnoff and saved myself 20 minutes.

I rained a fair bit last night and as I was driving down I thought I was heading into a substantial storm but it turned out to be just low hanging cloud on the hills,

Arrived with time to spare and invested in a superb breakfast. This is the way to enjoy shoots, drive down early, miss the traffic and have an excellent cooked breakfast amidst the fine company of fellow Archers.

It had rained a bit during the evening over the range and only some vehicles were slowly sinking into the rapidly softening ground.

I made a point of bopping over to Tradbits early to get a replacement photo for the one I lost yesterday. So here is the happy Tradbits crew - complete with there new friend "Porky".

Anyhow it was back to the ranges for another session of shooting. Since I was taking photos the group gained a couple of extras. Cleve - better known as Shrek and seen before, and Dan - who was shooting a prodigious weighted longbow with arrows that had a very flat trajectory and really did rocket towards the target.

So here we are on Range 1 again and this is where we started yesterday - but you missed out on the photos.

An easy shot.

As long as the forest that surrounded you at the shooting position did not entangle your bow. :D

Go on count the arrows - 6 Archers and 6 arrows. Great start to the day.

I definitely recommend you use a Flu-flu if you have any concerns about missing this target.

Just check out how high above ground level it was.

Here we go again - thread the needle and you have no worries.

And another - those with good eyes will see Lorraine's arrow in flight. Another scoring arrow. :D

For all that like the sitting shot.

And this is what the shot looked like.

This target was so easy to see I put a ring around it for you.

And this is what it was - a drop bear. :D

The targets after this you have seen so we will head over to Range 2. On the way I came a cross these little beauties for sale. They are from Bush Bow 3D targets.

So here we are on Range 2. Remember the Target with 2 tyres yesterday - well this is how to shoot it.

Another easy to see target - I have ringed it for you.

But it was nailed by some. Once again the knack is threading the shot between all the branches.

After two days of initiation and playing explorer as we walked through the bush John finally nailed one smack in the middle of the score zone. We all gave forth with a cheer for this little bit of work.

This was surprisingly easy shot.

And so that was the end of Range 2.

If you are thinking that range 2 seemed a bit short of targets - you are right. But you will have to wait until I process the video.

As I was heading back, for Lunch, Rob was doing a bit practice and so I snapped the mandatory photo.
23.jpg

Lunch was great - top Hamburgers , great Cold Drinks and even better Coffee. Why does that Coffee always taste so good after you have tramped a million miles through some very damp forest. After the lunch break it was time for the Running Pig. Another opportunity for arrows be lost or broken. One small concession was made, given that the ground was a tad drenched you did not have to kneel on station 1. :D

This is the "Official Scorer" seated in his "Official Scorer's Chair".

Zap - and was in the high score zone.

See the stick sticking out of Nheils' back. That is actually an arrow from the archer on the station after Nheils.

Shrek gets one away - it will miss.

Another of pesky arrows ruining a good picture.

But here is a good one of Michael nailing the Pig.

This time Shrek will nail it. You can see the arrow heading towards the target.

Yep, you can see the arrow in the target.

So that is the end of the photos - or that is the end of what I am loading.

I have some video and I need to edit that so it will probably not go up until early tomorrow.

All in all it was a great shoot and North Albert deserved to be congratulated on the running of a most enjoyable event - and the food was good. If you have not been to the event and you are in Brisbane over the Easter period this is a shoot not to miss out on.

If anyone else has photos and wants to upload them please just add them on.

Thanks again Grahame for taking the time to share your experiences with us. 8)

It's always a pleasure to see photos of 3D shoots, especially the shots that are unusual and challenging.

It takes a considerable amount of my time to download the photos as I only have dial-up access, but it's certainly worth it. :D

There is no use focusing on aiming if you don't execute the shot well enough to hit what your are aiming at.

my favourite part was when we were shooting in our group and the rain just started to come done. it was fun shooting at the targets during the rain, it is harder harder when your saturated and your glove is all wet, hey mark    .

the food was good to, especially dinner on saturday night.

i will be definatelly going next year and hope to be shooting one of my bows.

Morning All

Those who looked at the video will have noticed that a few of those shot were on very steep ground into an extremely wooded ravine. That was on Range two and there are no photos of those shots. But they were - "Oh..... Wowwww......." - type of shots. Down into the ravine at better than 20 degrees.

And then there was the excitement of climbing down the ravine and up the other side. In the Wet.......

:D :D :D :D :D
