Lilydale 3D Trad Shoot

#1 Post by Trad Bound » Wed Apr 01, 2009 9:35 pm

Just come back from the club, Damien (Dinger to his friends) Club Pres. said to me you Trad guys showed a lot of interest at the LB (Longbow) 100 in having a Trad only shoot. Well here is a offer 13 September 2009 one day only 3D Trad Shoot if there is enough interest, 20 or 25 targets, two rounds. So I'm after some response to see if it is a goer. Those who made it to LB 100 you know the site bush land on the out skirts of Melbourne, Pavitts Lane in The Basin. You response will make happen or not. I know we are a difficult lot to commit to some thing but hey give me a response.
Cheers TonyJ
PS thanks to Gavin and Hue for suggest two new people to visit Lilydale tonight.

The Black Griffins will of course support this event Tony, and reckon we can russle up quite a few to add to the mix.
An amazing course, and a club that can run a well organinsed event, why wouldn't you go?

Tony, Happy to point people from your side of town to Lilydale, I figure there is a good mix of bow types there and a welcoming crew and good facitlites, perfect for those interested in getting into archery what ever bow they choose to use.

This would also bring a bundle of closet longbowers out that also shoot compound at L/D. I can think of about 6. Has the makings of a good muster.

Make it 2 days and then I'd work on heading south.

Tony

Are you going to have those magnificant moose and water buffalo 3D targets out this time as well?

We're going away on a family holiday in September, but thank goodness it's after the 13th. 8) So I'll be there and I'll probably bring my daughter too.

There is no use focusing on aiming if you don't execute the shot well enough to hit what your are aiming at.

I hope we can get some of the bigger gear. sorry about the one day thing i know it is difficult for the travellers Nev Steve Tris and Liam and Mark Scrub Bull. But hey the work involved for a two dayer given LB 100 I think Lilydale has put itself on the Ozbow Trad books pretty well this year. Thanks to you guys for your fast response and credit to Dinger (Damien), the committee and Clarkie for taking us so serious. Keep on rolling in the names folks. Even you blokes who lurk in the shadows ( Big Karhuna, Mark)

Assuming no scouting or re-enacting appears we should be there the whole family had a ball last time so we will be there. Tony will it be on Lilydale rules where they try to make my 9 year old shoot woth strangers again?
Count us 5 in Tony

People can get some practice in at our shoot 2 weeks before hint hint :-)

Ill toss my cents in on the 2 dayer

It would be great!!

I realise the work involved,, but hey we are trad, to be honest if the targets dont get changed over night I dont mind. if the catering was self done I dont mind. ie If we simplify it enough maybe a 2 dayer would be more appealing easier for the club and we would get the "long rangers" in from the other states as well etc.

LB40? LB50?

Whats the general consensis regarding backdrops for 3D targets?

Needed or not?

For the LB100 Gaz and I tried to make it reasonably arrow friendly by having mostly our 3D's in front of target butts.
However our usual format for our 3D challenge events is much more akin to a 3DAAA setup with targets among the natural environment. Can make it a little more difficult to find those missed shots, but I am of the opinion it makes for a more challenging and exciting course. It also means we can have courses set up that our Lilydale bretheren do not know blindfolded.

????

It takes quite a bit of planning to create an entirely new course, so some of the LB100 couse could be adapted.

Which, if any, particular areas or shots were favorites for the Trad crew?

It is amazing how much interest has been sparked in trad archery at lilydale since the LB100. I went to the club shoot last night and counted at least six new or dusted off long bows in the shed. The target last night was an apple with a hot competition in the longbow division, outnumbering the compounds I might add. Very good to see!
I would also love to see this as a 2 day event and offer my support for anything that could be done to organize or prepare for this event. I know how much effort these fellows and ladies went to to put on the LB and if we, as a group get behind clubs like lilydale and support them we will see a real surge in events specifically suited to us and our bent sticks.

Here is my 10 cents worth Dewi :) . If you can get safe arrow line use the creek area Red course no back drops max 30 yards. If you use the mega Moose / Buff shoot these up into the bottom of the top course no backdrop max 40yards or the top end of yellow course for ease of access. LB/ELB shoot wood. Recurve/ Hun whatever. Agree avoid backdrops if poss' for a real challange.

yeah I think back drops are not nessecary we don't use them at our club shoots, you accept that there is always a chance of loosing an arrow with any kind of field archery. Thats all part of the game AND it up the anty to shoot better!

As far as the course goes I can't remember course colours but the shot i really liked was the alligator one in the creek bed in the dappled shade, challnging to see in the first place and realisitcally positioned. I also like the across the creek shot near the walk bridge, cant remember the animal it was though, but it was the one where Gazzwah was taking photos on Sunday. Another good one was the pig shot form the platform near the road, steep angle nice shot that one. The other one that springs to mind was the standing bear shot, that was down the dirt path and steps, it dropped off more than you thought and it made it challenging to shoot.

Anyway I love the whole at layout at Lilydale so I am happy to shoot it where ever, the bit near the creek in shade of the forest were my favourite though.

Just keeping you in the loop there has been a lot of discussion about taking it to a two dayer(no promises yet) , it will mean a lot of people need to help out as the people who did a lot behind the scene stuff last time want to shot this time, fair enough too. There are a few (a lot)closet longbowers  at the club. So I and other Lilydalers will be at Leongatha on the 19th so if you are there let us know what you think. Nev and Scrub Bull I know what you think  .

Guy it ain't up to me, I'm just carrying the messages.
What this 5 bows. There was a big who Ha about being a one bow man.
Your easily won over, your just a bow tart   . Maybe it should be Trad, two bows max and wooden arrows. That would put a chill up you and Phill. Which ones would you take?
Decisions, Decisions.

Gee Hue you've got 3D bad. We can promise you coffee and a laugh, but you will need to read the time yourself. Poor Hue was late last sunday arhh summer time clocks forward or backward not Hue's problem his partner got it wrong and hue isn't going to let her off easily. It was a good day though I shot poorly thats an understatement for me

Maybe a two dayer could tempt that nice group of people from Bega, or some of those nice people that Scrub bull knows.Cheers TonyJ
