1st WARBOW AUSTRALIA grading

#1 Post by White Hawk » Wed Dec 10, 2008 9:20 am

Hi folks,

just thought I'd let you all know that the very first Warbow Australia grading was held on Dec 7th at Leongatha. 8 members of WBA undertook their level one grading.
It was a fantastic day of exploring the warbow, of sharing knowledge and experiences, and tweaking our form so we all stay on track with our practice.

WBA awards a bodkin head to each archer that passes their respective level (not unlike a martial arts belt). Level one is a short bodkin head. We encourage archers to hang this from their quiver. As we progress up the ranks the arrow heads become more elaborate finishing with the final level being the massive swallow tail warhead, which is also the logo for WBA.

I have attached some photos of the day, set in the beautiful surrounds of Mossvale Park Leongatha where the Oaks and Elms provide the perfect backdrop for the shoot.

Graded to Level one were:
Leigh Adamson
Len Buckand
Gavin Downs
Morgan Fisher
Hue Wanner
Tom Baggelay
Ross Hatton
Dean Collard

I would also like to thank LMS for hosting the event and Rhys Hawley and Morgan Fisher for the use of their photos.

Well done fellas!

It's reassuring to know the rich legacy of, what was once the secret hi-tech weapon of the day, the longbow, is now being preserved in this country. If it wasn't for the likes of Len and the rest of the WBA crew, much of our knowledge (and especially our practical knowledge) would almost certainly be lost to history.

It looks like you all had fun too. :D

There is no use focusing on aiming if you don't execute the shot well enough to hit what your are aiming at.

Thanks Mick and yeah, it was a lot of fun having eight of us shooting big arrows together and we found it invaluable shooting as a group so we could help each other with form, which is what its all about. We cant wait for the next grading now and you'll see a few warbows showing up at comps soon I reckon :)
