I'm really looking forward to another round of Battle Clout!!!

After making some claims of expected victory and then suffering such a embarrassing defeat at the last Battle Clout, I'm very keen to administer some punishment at Leongatha. :D

The beautiful Mossvale Park will be the perfect venue for this event. It's like a slice of merry olde England.

Admittedly there were a few guideline glitches with the inagural Battle Clout event, but even though, it was still a great day. Now we know where the rules need to be changed to make this event even better. The 3D animal round will make the day even more enjoyable and varied.

As far as other future Battle Clout events are concerned, don't be surprised if the Black Griffins announce something along these lines in the near future. We're working on it and even more. :D

hi Morgan

what is the distance to shoot? and can i shoot alley's? the longer the better unlike some of the woozes at Yarra who couldn't handle a little wind and watch out for a "certain" cheat who shall remain nameless who kept changing distances according to the wind.

Morning all. The starting distance will most likely be 120 approx with ends shot from four distances, with reduced number of ends as you get closer to the target to simulate battle conditions.
At our last event a couple of our guys demonstrated the finer points of longsword fighting and this time I hope to have a bunch of guys in armour showing battlefield fighting for our lunchtime entertainment.
The 3d round will add some more fun to the day and give the hunters a chance to shine.
ps woods only

Hey fellas i'd like to hear some tales of your experiences during the battle clout.Like for example the noise it makes when one hits your helmet or how much it hurt when it got you in the leg etc where youve been hit,how much fun you were having, stuff like that.
Please tell cause the battle clout sounds a lot of fun to me.

There are a few lines here I could use but hey this is a family forum. Any way a man of your means can afford to buy some woods. Put it this way No Woods No Deal.
It will be good to see you there, every time I've met you its been at your club and you have not been able to shoot as you have been busy. I just realised are you a Black Griffin? If so then you will have to have woods, as one of the rabble I must insist you play the game properly. Do we have a Deal.
Cheers and well done on your win.

French Shields!!!!
Please we are not that refined. French Rabble Shields more like it but hey with those fancy little fletches of yours you Black Griffins are getting serious. I think we will have to bring plenty of snails and Garlic to put you off.
Just looked up the French National Anthem (English Version)
(thems fightin words)
La Marseillaise
French National Anthem
La Marseillaise was composed by Claude-Joseph Rouget de Lisle in 1792 and was declared the French national anthem in 1795.

Let's go children of the fatherland,
The day of glory has arrived!
Against us tyranny's
Bloody flag is raised! (repeat)
In the countryside, do you hear
The roaring of these fierce soldiers?
They come right to our arms
To slit the throats of our sons, our friends!

Refrain

Grab your weapons, citizens!
Form your batallions!
Let us march! Let us march!
May impure blood
Water our fields!

~ ~ ~ ~ ~

This horde of slaves, traitors, plotting kings,
What do they want?
For whom these vile shackles,
These long-prepared irons? (repeat)
Frenchmen, for us, oh! what an insult!
What emotions that must excite!
It is us that they dare to consider
Returning to ancient slavery!

What! These foreign troops
Would make laws in our home!
What! These mercenary phalanxes
Would bring down our proud warriors! (repeat)
Good Lord! By chained hands
Our brows would bend beneath the yoke!
Vile despots would become
The masters of our fate!

Tremble, tyrants! and you, traitors,
The disgrace of all groups,
Tremble! Your parricidal plans
Will finally pay the price! (repeat)
Everyone is a soldier to fight you,
If they fall, our young heros,
France will make more,
Ready to battle you!

Frenchmen, as magnanimous warriors,
Bear or hold back your blows!
Spare these sad victims,
Regretfully arming against us. (repeat)
But not these bloodthirsty despots,
But not these accomplices of Bouillé,
All of these animals who, without pity,
Tear their mother's breast to pieces!

~ ~ ~ ~ ~

Sacred love of France,
Lead, support our avenging arms!
Liberty, beloved Liberty,
Fight with your defenders! (repeat)
Under our flags, let victory
Hasten to your manly tones!
May your dying enemies
See your triumph and our glory!

Refrain

We will enter the pit
When our elders are no longer there;
There, we will find their dust
And the traces of their virtues. (repeat)
Much less eager to outlive them
Than to share their casket,
We will have the sublime pride

We might have to sing it to put you off.
On a serious note I look forward to another wonderful Trad Day at that lovely park with such good company.
Cheers
Tony J

I hope some of you can at least sing.

On a personal note there are a couple of modern songs which could go down well.

For the Scots among you: "Flower of Scotland"
This sung by a few thousand will send shivers down your spine
First Verse
O Flower of Scotland,
When will we see,
Your like again,
That fought and died for,
Your wee bit Hill and Glen,
And stood against him,
Proud Edward's Army,
And sent him homeward,
Tae think again.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4-rplOisb8g

For the Welsh: "Men of Harlech"
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Men_of_Harlech
Part of the first verse of the "Talhaiarn" version

Glyndŵr, see thy comet flaming,
Hear a heavenly voice declaiming,
To the world below proclaiming,
Cambria shall be free:

And for those who have never seen the version in Zulu
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YrZbUS0M ... re=related

For the Irish: "The wearing of the Green"
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wearing_of_the_Green

And if the colour we must wear is England's cruel red,
Will serve to remind us of all the blood that she has shed,
So take the shamrock from your hat and cast it in the sod,
But never fear, 'twill take root there, though under foot 'tis trod

And for 'le Anglais': "The British Grenadier"
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_British_Grenadiers

Some talk of Alexander, and some of Hercules
Of Hector and Lysander, and such great names as these.
But of all the world's great heroes, there's none that can compare.
With a tow, row, row, row, row, row, to the British Grenadiers.

And if you like my favourite version - primarily because it has the "right" drums http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yv4LaLDG5xE there are plenty of orchestral versions out there.

Hmmm.... after a few verses of Flower of Scotland (and the others) the French could suddenly find themselves with some new allies.

Hey tonyJ......I will have to revise my thoughts here. These darn anthems are so confusing :? . At the last Battle Clout I am sure LMS and the Griff's called us a mercenary Phallus not a mercenry Phalanxe. I they not the same :) :?:

Tony S
I thought Phallus was a illness like phlegm and they just wanted to spit us out, like a bad taste. Like Guiness is, not our snails and garlic.
These blokes who dress up are serious aren't they.
Now Mick Smith and the "special fletches" etc. What next?. :?:
Shh! they will hear us.
Wait a moment I hear from one of those Black Griffins that Tony S has joined their camp. What is going on!!!! Is this true? Surely not come on Tony, we will let you play with any of your bows ( a boy you have a few) at the French Rabble Group.

I wouldn't have thought you could join the Black Griffins with that new Korean Bow with Bamboo arrows and the american indian gear. Did the make you hand it all back?
Look forward to seeing you all soon
