Keen for Kryal!

#1 Post by morgan » Tue May 08, 2007 3:54 pm

I'm super keen for the Kryal castle (ballarat) shoot but where is the talk? The anticipation? The friendly banter?! This event is right up LMS' alley and I can't wait and I know a lot of our club has similar feelings.

So whos up for it? 8)

Archers of Cheshire, polish your swords, helms and bucklers. Oil your bows and wax your strings and don the green and white battle tunics for the horn of war has been sounded and we will muster under the battle standard and march on the castle of Kryal !
The Leongatha guys are all up for this and we cant wait for the arrows to start flying ! And this time we will be wearing out medieval kit.

My word, you gentlemen from Leongatha are certainly very keen and that's fantastic. I too, am looking forward to this event. Alas, I have no period costume and my bow has a shelf. No doubt the men and women of LMS will be decked out to the nines. 8)

I'm looking forward to seeing you all there.

Thats the spirit mick! Your bow may be a modern bow with a shelf but at least your out there having a crack, enjoying yourself with none of those nasty/ugly sights and stabilisers hanging off it. Maybe your local party hire place will have a period costume or you could get busy with the sewing machine and make something up( most of the LMS guys and girls outfits are self made ) . Think of the great photo op's if we can get a heap of people in period traditional gear!! It will be a day for the ages!!!

where IS the talk? C'mom guys...

Well done Morgan, I was wondering when anyone on the forums was gonna start talking this up - Never fear, the local horde is also gearing (and garbing) up for the Kryal shoot. Since we are shooting in a castle, it will be great to see everyone get into the trad gear. For those who are also reenactors, there may be various entertainments on Sunday in the area also.
(pm me for details)
Can't wait to see who wins twixt the Brits with their Longbows and the Horde with Horsebows. Should be as much fun as "possums vs koalas" :)
Incidentally, my bet is on the koala, hands down - assuming that neither party is allowed run away, otherwise the possum's agility would help it. Koala wins on the horrendous noise factor, anyhow.

I didn't realise my post was going to turn out to be true, pulled out the helmet, sword and buckler and they all have a fine layer of rust, so I really will be polishing them up for the shoot!

I haven't heard a thing from the southern horde yet, maybe they're scared to face the archers of Cheshire (Leongatha) again ?

Kryal shoot

#9 Post by White Hawk » Wed May 09, 2007 2:18 pm

Do you hear that ye olde company of Longbowmen!?

The distant rumble of horse and hooves, the bowel loosening war cry... the might of the horde cometh!
Our numbers echo across the plains like the great thunder gods themselves!

Hide your women and bury your valuables for we will blot out the sun with our arrows!

see you on the plains of Ballarat for a great day boyz!

Hey guys just wondering when this shoot is. I live in Frankston so this would be a great oppertunity for me to get to one. I got into archery after reading the Raymond E Fiest Books and would love to meet some Traditional arches. Also where is Kryall Castle exactly? are there any stalls etc?
Cheers Jimmy

Kryal

#17 Post by Lochmoy » Thu May 10, 2007 4:05 pm

Sorry people.

I have been so wrapped up in the finalising of the event. (had a few hitches) that I sheer forgot to start the harangiing of you lesser archers!

Needless to say that it will be good to get together again and watch the cocky fellows of Leongatha et al being nocked down a peg or two. Unless of course you have been practicing.

I too am wearing some reenactment gear as we will be at a castle!

There are some exciting events coming up for June, August, September and particularly November. Details to come. But keep the following dates clear for trad. They are pretty much definites.

Jun 17
Aug 18 and 19
Nov 3 and 4
Nov 17 and 18

The archers of Chesire will decend on Ballarat in less than a week and if my forum scouts are anything to go by there will be little resistance. Who will defend the castle from the green and white army?

There once were some lads from Leongatha
Who thought they were bowman that mattered
But to their bemusement
And our great amusement
They ran home defeated and battered!

longbow not in time...

#25 Post by Abaci » Tue May 15, 2007 2:26 pm

I'm excited about Kryal, but my long bow won't be here yet so I'll have to sit on the sidelines... I have my b/f and a few others to cheer on though so fingers crossed that its a nice day (and that I can pick up some tips for when I get my Martin Savanna bow hopefully next week).

Probably see half of you there...
