I reckon you blokes should get a prize for being so concerned about the visitor's broken arrows. As far as I'm concerned, the arrow damage was a non-event. I had 4 arrows broken when the target toppled over, but the sense of loss over the arrows was more than compensated for by my forever retained mental image of poor "Lochmoy's" crestfallen face when he saw his beloved Steve Wallace arrows lying broken on the ground. That memory is priceless. I shouldn't laugh. I know Leigh cherished those arrows. I must be some kind of sicko. But it was funny, in a dark sort of way.
Arrows are made to be broken or lost. It's no big deal.
By the way, welcome to Ozbow Anthony.

There is no use focusing on aiming if you don't execute the shot well enough to hit what your are aiming at.
Thank you for the kind words all, makes me feel very proud of our club, however, the infamous arrow breaking incident of Feb 07 was due to our inexperence and so please get in touch with Anthony and we'll try to make amends.
On a happy note , I had a ball of a time and its great to now be able to put faces to posts on the forum and I hope to see you all again soon at Geelong. Thanks again for coming down to our shoot and helping to make it such a wonderful day and thanks to Leigh for doing so much to promote the event and to Wildwood Archery for donating a beautiful armguard for one of the prizes.
Happy shooting and Huzzah!

As tragic as it may be, just think yourself lucky it was not full of X10's at $500 plus per dozen and only available in dozen lots.

Come on guys!!! There were heaps of cameras there and lots of photos taken, where's your photos?
I've logged on about 6 times tonight, just to see all the Leongatha photos and every time I've been dissappointed, there's nothing, well no photos at least.
I'd love to see them all.

Oh, so NOW you tell us it wasn't meant to be a "garb" event! (after i stayed up after midnight finishing off the outfit, then sweltering in it yesterday. ) I seem to recall you saying at Yarra Valley that while it wasn't absolutely essential, medieval dress was "highly encouraged". Not that wearing modern gear would have helped my pitiful performance on the clout much, I fear. Oh well, hopefully at Geelong people will don the gear and we'll see the great southern horde showing their true asiatic colours (bright, silky and smelly, from all accounts). Although since this is an ELB challenge, I guess i have to wait for the next horsebow comp to see the Mongols out in force.morgan wrote:I've heard len go on about this post and after reading it I can't believe the support!!
I probably should say that LMS won't be in period gear. We may don it over lunch and show you what we can do with big shiny metal sticks tho. We will ( hopefully everyone got the memo) be wearing our civilian uniform of green Polo's/jumpers.
I'm not sure if Len has said anything but there will be a low cost lunch available and for anyone traveling long distances and staying the Saturday night here is a casual invite to join a few LMS members up at the local for dinner, a few drinks and a get to know you session, as I doubt there will be enough time on the Sunday to get around to everyone.

I'm lovin this site, Great photos Guy's. I am so disappointed I chose not to wear the kit.
Next time, we will try and organise a whack & crack demo Hoping my fellow Knight club buddies will help out.
Huzzah!

Yet another interesting facet of our very enjoyable day at Leongatha.
I thought I'd make mention of a very interesting demonstration provided to us by the Leongatha Medieval Society and that was a practical test of what happens when a fairly ordinary field pointed arrow, shot from a 60# selfbow, hits a piece of real chain-mail.
I didn't explain it very well in the captions to my photos, but if you care to look at the first series of photos, you will see Sven dressed in period archer's costume shooting at the "French knight". If you look closely at the knight, you might see a smallish rectangular piece of chain-mail hanging down from it. In one of the later photos, you will see the result of one of the hits. The field tipped arrows penetrated the chain-mail rather easily and surprisingly even one brass tipped arrow managed to penetrate it as well, although the brass tip was a bit scarred afterwards. I believe the chain-mail was an authentic reproduction of what was probably actually used in medieval times.
I don't know about you, but I found it all very interesting indeed.

Was a good display Mick but LMS can't take all the credit as Sven is actually from NVG/White company though he is a regular visitor to the Leongatha shoots so he's almost one of us and he was kind enough to do the test for us and I thank him for it.
ole silver you are a real gentleman mate and always welcome.

Howdy there Steve..hope you are travelling safely. Many thanks Mate for pointing a Trad shoot newbie in the right direction through the rounds appreciated. It sure was a day full of fun. Good to get out and about without the walking frame .
Remember mate dont let that Bundy bear refletch any more of your POC's. He has to angle feather's away from the pointy end. .
Good shooting with the Horse Bow.

Talk about mad dogs and Englishmen. I got heat stroke at the end and nearly hurled all the way back to Geelong but it was worth it!
Can't wait to host the next comp and gee I almost want to see the LMS crowd again!

Some more photos form Leongatha Comp
Hey folks,
some more photos, sorry about there lateness, computers issues.
I love the diversity of equipment used, each is as unique and individual, as their owner.
Once I'd tried trad, there's no going back for this lad!
