I was just thinking...how cool would it be to have an Ozbow archery meet? I for one would love to meet all the people I have chatted with on this forum and get to know them face to face. Now I realise that we live all over Australia and that it would be very hard to organise for everyone to get there, but maybe even if its only at a state level...I live in Melbourne and I'm sure that there would be plenty of people who would want to come along down here...

We sort of approached something like this last year when we had out Ozbow hunt in October. There were about a dozen or so Ozbowers who turned up at the hunting camp in the Alps up near Corryong in Victoria. We had a great time chewing the fat and checking out new territory. The game was a bit scarce though.
You're right about the biggest problem being the vast distances people would have to travel. It's hard enough trying to organise a get together just within the state, never mind a national meet.
I was at the Ballarat shoot last weekend and there was at least a dozen Ozbow members there. This might be the best and easiest way to get together, as the events are already organised, you just have to turn up. We had a fantastic time. There's going to be many more traditional shoots coming up in Victoria next year, at least 6 I believe. The trouble is, quite often you will be happily talking to someone, and you won't even realise the person is "so and so" from Ozbow, the realization hits you at a later date. Perhaps we need to wear Ozbow hats or something. Geewiz, you might have even been at the Ballarat shoot yourself.
Traditional shoots are becoming much more frequent as time progresses and the crowds seem to be getting bigger and bigger. It's no wonder as they are great fun. I think this might be the best way of catching up with fellow Ozbow members as people come from all around the country to attend them.
If you would like a 2007 calendar of Victorian Traditional shoots, send an email to lochmoy, Leigh will be happy to email the calendar back to you. I hope to see you at one of these shoots in the near future.

There is no use focusing on aiming if you don't execute the shot well enough to hit what your are aiming at.
Thanks for the info Mick, I thought as much. I've already signed up for the traditional event newsletter, and thats what actually got me thinking. And no, unfortunately I wasn't at the meet over the weekend though I really, really wanted to be (I'm in the process of selling my business and I just finished my exams...the weekend was spent doing bookwork and sleeping *sniff, sniff*!).
What I was looking for was a target/field meet, as opposed to a hunting meet (whilst I would be very much into the hunting side of things, I would also want those who aren't hunters to come along as I would like to meet as many members as possible...plus if we all go off hunting in different directions there won't be much socialising).
I'm definitely going to attend some of the trad events next year, but as you said its a problem that we might meet one another but not have a clue as to who is from Ozbow and who is from the broader community! I would love an event for Ozbow members only...a campsite with a couple of bonfires, a few targets and some other events (clout and field comes to mind, if we can find the space), and some name tags so we know who is who! I'd love members to post on this topic and let me know if they'd attend (if we can get 20 ppl that'd be great!). Maybe if we could organise for it to be closer to Melbourne, say within 50-60klms of the CBD, it would be alot more accessible to members (as an idea, maybe somewhere around Buxton, Launching Place etc somewhere out of the big smoke but not too far).

The buckles are still available but all the last order (Jude picked them up today) are sold. More are on order and should be availble in a couple of weeks. I should have had them ordered a lot earlier but I have been house bound for the last couple of weeks. I'll give a holler when I have more.

Just a few thoughts.
The Ozbow crowd, or at least a core of it, seems to be going to more tournaments and at the same time there are more tournaments.
The WA get together along with the photos put faces to lots of names.
The Corrival, Ballarat and Bendigo shoots have done the same. And people are starting recognise each other.
From my view an Ozbow shoot would be good but it is unlikely to happen as we are really just a grpoup of people with similiar interests. Not an organised body.
The best we can do is promote the shoots as they come along especially if you are going. Try and meet each other there and take lots of photos.
The Photos will soon have people recognising each other as you go to shoots.
I think most people would recognise Jeff, Mick, Sue, Darryl, Wing, etc. as they are very distinctive people - and I mean that in the nicest way possible.
The next part is to make sure we introduce ourselves when we are at events.
In my case keep an eye out for the WARF or my KG1 (there are very few of them around). And I am probably the chap whose accuracy is rapidly going downhill as I spend more time taking photos than shooting arrows.

I think meeting at organized shoots is probably the best way to go as well but if anyone wants to organize an Ozbow get together in their area or State by all means go ahead. I'm sure those who can make it would enjoy themselves.

hi fellow and girls ozbowers good idea the belt buckle but we don;t all wear a belt ,how about a sew on cloth patch it could be worn on t-shirts or jackets,hats.ect//faye

I have a vague memory of a thing called the Bendigo Long Bow Muster. Is this still an event and if so how can I learn more about it?

Good thoughts guys and gals...though I know we're not an organised body, but rather a forum for a group of like minded individuals, I still chat to you all alot more than I do anyone at my old club (even when I was still a member I didn't talk to them as much as I do to all of you!). I would just love an event for Ozbow'ers, it'd be sweet...but we shall see how things develop and how much actual interest is generated and then we'll go from there.

PS Thanks Jeff, you have an order for 1 buckle as soon as you get back to me The iron on transfer sounds good too, if we popped it on our tourney quivers or hats we could recognise each other easily.
