Just registered and wanting to make contact with as many Trads as possible. I have been reading with interest the talk on Traditional Archery Tournaments. This website is fantastic. Congratulations to the webmaster.

I am the chairman of Traditional Archery Australia. We have been up and running for about six months. Fifty members to date located from Cairns to Tasmania.

Based in Sydney but we have ventured out of NSW for Trad shoots in Tully, Cairns and Ballarat Vic. We will travel anywhere to meet as many Trad Archers as possible. Hoping to have reps in all states. Yes, National. Leading up to a National Shoot!

There are a number of trad shoots within NSW we are aware of. The Gathering, The Barebow Challenge, Shellharbour and possibly one in Bega?

QLD is the Tully Challenge, Gladstone Trad Muster, CRABS.

Vic. Ballarat Trad Shoot.

Soon, Geelong Vic. Thks Leigh.

If anyone out there knows details of dates and times etc for 2006 or more Trad Shoots anywhere in Aust. let me know please. We are attempting to gather all existing shoot info to distribute to our members and anyone interested.

As a result of our trip to Tully our challenge and delivery of a war arrow to the Tully boys and girls we will have a NSW shoot out to choose the best three longbowmen and three recurve archers to do battle with the QLD team at the Gathering, 10th, 11th and 12th June at Hunter Valley Traditional Archers. "The Archery State of Origin".

The Shoot Out will be held Near Newcastle. Hunter Valley Traditional Archers. Check out our website for details to be posted soon. (All Traditional and no metal or wheels, must use wooden arrows). No need to be a TAA or any other organization member to compete.

Initially having state shoots. QLD covered. NSW covered. Vic developing. We need some input from WA, SA, NT and Tasmania. Are you out there!

The shoots need to be uniform statewide. When the nationals take place they will be similar. Same events.

Our ideas are Traditional Aust. events. not events from OS. Currently 20-30 3D or paper animal targets. Speed shoot- set time to shoot set amount of targets. Bowbird- disks thrown or launched in the air using fluflu arrows. Running target- pig 3D or similar on a cable, moving. Wand shoot- fluro painted strip of foam etc at about 160M. No distances marked for any event.

The shoots should simulate or be designed to develop or sharpen hunting skills. If you prefer hunt without shooting an animal. For the hunters, develop those skills to be a better trad bow hunter. Train the young ones. What do you think? some ideas would be good.

Thanks for your time and looking forward to chatting and reading more on Trad Archery.

Check out our website. You could join us, or just buy a t-shirt to support our cause or show that you are a trad archer/hunter.

Regards,

Hi Trad,
have you any plans to do a roving mark event at any of these shoots?. The other half and I are moving over to Oz in a few days and are looking at getting involved in trad and field archery(have bow will travel). When the weather is good over here we have been going to a different event or shoot every weekend, so the chance to do similar over there would be good, tho with the distances involved a dif shoot every weekend is out of the question. Looking forward to meeting a whole new lot of archery nuts:)

Hi! Stace.
I must apologize for putting one too many stops in the web address.
The correct address is www.northalbert.com sorry for the inconvenience.
I could have been suffering from a 'seniors moment.'
Thank you little arrows for posting the correct address.
With a bit of luck I may be able to edit my original mistake.

Daryl.

clout as an inclusion in the uniform events

Just been thinking about the unique event of clout as an inclusion into the regular program of traditional events for a National champs in the years to come. It is a specialised skill harkening from the days of yore on the battlefield.

To make it more interesting a low hay bale castel can be set up or you could "hunt the herd" from a long distance. Both events are being trialled at Geelong Traditional comp sept 2 and 3.

Also after experience the Australian Nationals a Morwell I am convinced that it should host at least the Victorian State and a future National trad comp. The centre is absolutely awesome and can cater for any event with large numbers. Peter Bennett the club president is also a long bowyer and would be keen I believe once he recovers from this years nationals.
