Norfolk Island Trad Shoot & International Shoot 2017

#1 Post by Scrub Bull » Thu Jul 14, 2016 9:52 am

Yes the Norfolk Island Trad Shoot will be on again in 2017.
Everything has fallen into place and I'll be running the Trad Shoot for the Norfolk Island Archery Club.
Next year will be the clubs 15th International Shoot so it will be a big one. Not bad for a club that has about 7 members.

The plan is after next years shoot the Trad shoot will happen every second year. Unless the numbers get to a point where it can run as an event on its own.

At the 2017 Trad Shoot we will not limit the numbers, the more the better.

For those that went to the 2016 Trad Shoot, we will change the format just a little bit, just so it's a little bit easier to run.

So the current plan for the 2017 Trad Shoot is

Monday afternoon - Archery Golf (back by popular demand with new rules)
Tuesday afternoon - Novelty events (still working on a block of land for this one)
Thursday Morning - 3D shoot (Hoping to use a block of land called Beefsteak which is 60 acres of great views)
Thursday Morning - Balls of Stone will be back with out cliffs, but that does not mean you will get your arrow back.

We hope to have a few sponsors on board for next year so we can have better prizes at the end of the shoot.

This year it was a 50 -50 split with compound shooters and Trad shooters.
For 2017 lets have the Trad Shooters out number the compound shoots and have a pile of fun while doing it.

353 more sleeps :Sleep

Ok its only 2 weeks away for all those heading out to this paradise. I'm off out there next weekend to set up the trad shoot.
The plan for the week is as follows.
Saturday or Sunday afternoon welcome drinks and rego at the club, the club will tell you more when you get on the ground.
Monday Morning, International shoot.
Monday Afternoon, Archery golf @ the golf club, bring flu flus with blunts, HINT you may want a selection.
Tuesday Morning, International shoot.
Tuesday Afternoon, Novelties & Fred Bear round at the club, wooden arrows and flu flus with blunts.
Wednesday all day, International shoot.
Thursday Morning, 3D trad shoot somewhere on the island, I have no idea where yet, but bring lots of wooden arrows. :surprised:
Thursday Night, Presentations & get drunk.

The trad shoot is about having some fun while seeing some of the island, we won't be handing out to many trophies.
There will be some small fees each day to cover some of the costs for the trad shoot.

Maybe I am getting old, not the most appropriate wording for an International event and a family orientated sport.

and from someone that doesn't drink himself :)

I couldn't quite drag out of Mark what he meant by "a selection of flu flus" - he did mention, No feather licking this year. Well there was only the one group that did last year, yes the winning group. Someone asked me last weekend how many flu flus' to take - I'm guessing at least 5 even though it's only one at a time on the golf course.
Anyhoo, he packed and took of today and the rest fly out in 9 sleeps time.

cheers

Ranges have been set and its all go out here on the rock. 5 Flu Flu would be good. I'm being nice this year no arrows going into the sea this year, yet, but we still have stunning views for 10 of the targets and we have a great view for afternoon tea at the end of the 3d shoot. The golf course is even greener than last year, don't know how thats possible. So far we have had perfect weather 6 days of sunshine and no wind.

Well its all over for another year and everyone is starting to make their way home from the shoot. Lots have already said they will be back next year. One couple from Tumut have already book and are heading home to buy longbows, they said that us trad people had way to much fun and they want to play next year. The good news is the club has talked me into doing the shoot again next year and most of the plans are in place and ready to go. So you have a year to start saving. More details to come. Where else in the world can you play Putt Putt Archery Golf.

There was 4 x 20 3D target rounds of the 3D International shoot, and for a small club they do a great job and to change both courses for all day Wednesday shooting is certainly a fantastic effort. The weather was fabulous and not terribly cold, a couple of light drizzle nothing to stop proceedings.
The Traditional Section consisted of archery golf Monday afternoon. Tuesday afternoon was 10 x 3D targets at the gun club, thankfully the club was closed for the day, then another 10 X 3D targets set out in the bush paddock of a property called Bedrock which had a wonderfully quirky café. Thursday morning was interesting Norfolk Island twist on a 20 target round, plus a 30sec speed round and bow bird trying to be shot in a rather strong wind.
