Just a weather update for the weekend of the Trad shoot in Lilydale.

Friday mostly sunny 18
Saturday Sunny 19
Sunday Mostly Sunny 20

Amazing weather, not too hot and with the some courses set out under the shady canopy of the Doongala state Forrest making the conditions on the ground perfect to shoot.

From what i have heard the courses will be a lot of fun with so much variety for all Traditional archers and the weather will be perfect all weekend for an absolutely great event.

Really looking forward to seeing as many archers there as possible. this will not be a shoot to miss out on.

Well, there's no doubt about it, The Lilydale Bowmen certainly know how to hold a trad event. It was imaginative, well organised and totally successful. The numbers of competitors were higher than expected, which was great. The meals were ridiculously inexpensive and they were a gastronomic delight.

The shoot itself was made up of four different parts, a fairly standard 10 target 3D course with magnificent large Rinehart targets, in which competitors shot 2 arrows, both of which scored. This was followed by a 10 target 'challenge' course, which was designed to add some real difficultly for the competitors. On this course you were allowed 3 arrows, with just the one shot per target and if you lost or broke arrows on the many obstacles, you could only shoot what you had left in your quiver at the last target. This round was followed by a 3 arrow, 10 target ABA course, which was finally followed by 2 speed shoots where competitors had to shoot as many arrows as they liked into a series of targets within a time restraint of 1 minute. The targets were then scored in the usual manner. Competitors were required to do the entire above course twice over the 2 days, so there were lots and lots of arrows shot.

The most important thing about the shoot was that there was lots of laughter and kind hearted banter. Nobody seemed terribly interested in their scores too much.

A huge well done to the many members of the Lilydale club who made this event a total success.

I didn't take many photos, but I will post up the ones I have shortly.

Here's my last 3 photos. It's too hard to shoot and take photos simultaneously, hence there's not many.

It was a pleasant surprise to see Timbow. It was a little cool in the morning, but we were down to t-shirts before lunchtime.

I felt a bit sorry for poor old Tim actually. His wife had been suffering from the dreaded gastro and he felt a little guilty leaving her at home. Towards the end of day one, Tim started to feel very crook too. He ended up making a quick departure for home. I hope he made it without fouling his car up too much.

In my description of the actual shoot, I completely forgot about the ''Lillydale rules'' round, where we could take up to two shots at 3D targets, but only the last arrow shot scored. It was fun to try to goad your team mates to take another shot when their first was already a scoring shot and it was especially fun when they missed their second shot. Well it was fun, until it I happened to fall victim to it and lost 5 points.

Thanks to the lilydale guys for their great effort in making the weekend shoot a great event. The weather was just perfect, The food ample and delicious especially Saturday night. The course offered many varied shooting positions and a great variety of shots. I shot many arrows as did everyone else. Met newcomers and some of the old or should i say those that have been around a while. Plenty of laughter and ribbing of the good type was experienced with the clan of archers i travelled with as we traversed the course.A great weekend was had.

A massive credit to Kahuna and Tony J .It would be the best all round Trad outing I have ever attended.
The trad community really shone at this one. Jenny's menu was sensational.
Darn it Mick.... you trumped my Man in Black Handshake with having been to a Chuck Berry concert. :surprised:
Plus... AHHHHHH the horror of the broken arrow award.
