Hi Guys,
Just rang the NSW RFS 1800679737 and was advised that there are still a couple of fires in the area but they are contained and Old Northern Rd is open and OK.
Cheers

Hi Grant good to hear you got there OK.
I plan on being there around midday give or take.
If Rob is around or online can I turn off Old Northern Rd and go down Laughtondale rd and if so when I hit singleton rd do I go left or right?
Cheers

OK i was able to find Robs place on google so I turn left at Singleton Rd.
Is Laughtondale Gully Rd a decent rd or I am better off carrying on down Old Northern Rd if anyone has been that way and knows the rd?
Cheers

Ian,
It maybe a short cut but - narrow and not a way to Rob's if you are not familiar with the dirt track.
Stick to the tarred ole northern road

many many campers arriving and setting up camp. Had a couple of fun shoots today, and the clout is going to be interesting if this wind keeps up tomorrow.
A little smoky around the ridges here, we are all safe.

only 1 sleep to go......woohooo,

I was hoping to attend for one day. After working in Brisbane whilst the upper Mountains is at risk I think I would be risking divorce. Lot of friends up here have lost houses. The fires seem a bit away but there is plenty of smoke. Coming home on the plane at near dusk the red sky was spectacular. I was not sure if I could drive home. If the wind gets up again the embers can travel a long way. Guess I will be tidying up the yard. Enjoy yourselves.

Like Kev I was going to head down for the night but it is to close to leave. Kev and I are safe but there are lots without homes as you have probably seen on the news. Some friends of friends had to leave their van packed with animals etc and be evacuated in a hurry by the RFS. Sad stories all round. Steve

We are safe. If wind gets up we will be anxious. Steve is a bit closer this time. 20 fire seasons and you get pretty philosophical about this. Daughter and son in the thick of it. Daughter is in both SES and RFS. Two probationary fire fighters on her rig [only one allowed at a time] so she is helping SES advise members of the public on the ground on door knocks/brochure handout. We are listening on Fire Command's Radio band and bringing up satellite pix/maps. Jessica and Ben send us updates on their breaks.

Two Hundred houses have gone and almost that number damaged at Springwood/Winmalee/Yellow Rock. 30 km away from me. The house we were going to buy when we came up here has been taken. Springwood hospital is being evacuated. Serious amount of destruction at Lithgow 40km away from me but less than 20 away from Steve by road but less bees line.

Bilpin is in serious trouble. People there are being advised to get to Kurrajong.

Oh Dear, I am really sorry to hear the news from someone who is being affected.
The hourly news breaks on the radio never quite gives to full picture.
It seems the fires around have been contained as we didn't have any smoke haze around today.
Please take care guys.

Day one of shooting was rather warm and windy, which made the clout very interesting. Most have done all the novelty events with everything to be finished by lunchtime tomorrow. Our group still needs to do the popinjay and Challenge Round and the weather is going to be warmer tomorrow too. Pictures will be posted when I get home on Tuesday.

Stay safe everyone.

cheers

Been a while since I could get to one of the trad shoots. I was looking forward to this. Just a few clicks too far. Unless we get a really favourable weather break or rain this group of fires are going to hang around....pretty dry.
I have a weeks work travelling to Sydney each day next week. Might get a bit interesting.

Proud of both my son and daughter. Son lives in Blacktown but has returned to pitch in. Going to be in control of a shift tonight. Daughter is at school, has a job and is active in the RFS and SES.

The make or break days will be the next couple of days. The Australian paper has raised the possibility of evacuating Leura and Katoomba.........bit disconcerting

This week end was a hoot!! great company and as usual very well organised and catered for!!

Rob, Dianne are quality hosts and did themselves proud.

Cheers to everyone involved. Brilliant, superbly run shoot yet again. Great people, bit too much whiskey and very late night on Sat (thanks Eoin, Howard O and Bob). Despite that I got 81 points more than last time, cracked 1100 for the first time and fluked a place etc. Happy bunny.

All the guys I came up with (first event for James and only the third time my girlfriend Cecilia has picked up a bow) had an absolute ball.

And a big congrats to Nathan on the shoot out win.

Thanks Rob, Di, Les and everyone.
