To much time, I wish. If I had to much time I'd be hunting.
The wife said I could go, so I booked the tickets before she changed her mind. :surprised:

How many sleeps for this one Sue?

Well its about time I did a report on this shoot, now that I am at last getting over the kiwi flu. Thanks stickshooter keep your bugs to yourself next time.

This was my my first trip to NZ and love every minute of it. No thats a lie, there was 20 mins at the airport being question by a very large Māori looking fellow from customs as to why I had prescription drugs with my name on them, no questions about any of the other stuff I had, like a bag full of 3d targets and a bag full of weapons :surprised: .

The nearest town to this shoot is Pukekohe, which is less than a 10 min drive to the club. I stayed at the Best Western in Pukekohe and it would have to be the best motel I have stayed at for a long time. Pukekohe is about 30mins south of Auckland airport.

The club does take a bit to find if you turn up early and the sign is not out. The club ground are in an old quarry that now has a lot of large trees growing all over it and very thick bush in places. By Aussie standards the club is very small, with not alot of members to do the work that is needed. For this shoot the range they set was one of the best I have shot this year.
Not to may close targets on this range and some took some finding. 30+ targets and special targets as they call them on the range. The weather Saturday was great and I forgot the camera, Sunday well if you think Melbourne has 4 seasons in one day, these guys get 4 seasons in 5 mins. The weather was so bad that only one group did the full range on Sunday. The hardest part of shooting this range was staying on 2 feet, yes I ended up on my butt a number of times.

Was it a fun shoot? Well I had fun and would do it again. I think their next Trad Shoot is on the Australia day long weekend, and I am working on brownie points so I can make this one. They tell me the weather will be better  .

I only managed a few photos on the range I was to busy trying to stay dry and upright.

You are a bad man Andy, but with your intense interest in the subject area I would have thought that you would have known that there are more sheep per capita in Australia. Before you cast aspersions in my direction I had this pointed out to me by a very large pair of brothers when the subject was raised in Enzed a number of years ago.

When I went to the World Archery 3D World Championships in Austria in 2011, it was the first time someone from the Southern hemisphere had attended. Big joy but lots of embarrassment as some of the targets were Kangaroos....there was a sudden rush of concerned officials taking them off the course. i am glad they did because they looked nothing like a kangaroo and I would have burst into laughter.....they looked like three foot high long eared mice half standing. Should have seen the look on their faces when I said they got 6 feet tall/2 metres high and that they were protected and really only taken under permits etc and that not many bowhunters would take one.

Mark, thank you for the story and the photos.

my first comment is to Andy.D your comments are very insulting. In all my years in Trad shooting this is the first time I'v heard this sort of crap from A fellow Trad shooter, you and people like you need to get over yourself,I'v never heard a kiwi talking about Aussies like that.

I had a hunt sorted out for Mark when he got here but as you'v heard I had come down with the flu a couple of days before he got here.So I only got to see him when he came round for tea.
Chris my son & myself had gone down to Lake Tarawera two weeks before hand to get some Wallabies
One of which I was to give him for tea

I managed to cook up not a bad stew, but he was not shocked,he had had it before,
(Was going to rotisserie a whole one but thats happening tomorrow now).
I was disappointed that I couldn't make the shoot after spending so much time setting it all up,but the rest of the crew ran it all very well.
The theme of the shoot was concealment so on a lot of the shots there was leaves, trees or other animals in the way.
There where 32 stations some with multi targets & 2 running 3d's,& 2 snap shots.
Saturday was nice & fine & Chris got a few pics so here they are.
Will do the rest tomorrow
