Lakeside Traditional Shoot

#1 Post by dalbyboy » Thu Jun 23, 2011 5:45 pm

Hi guys,
This is my first post on ozbow and already advertising for a trad shoot.

Lakeside bowmen started their own shoot specially for traditional equipment last year.
They are an ABA club near Petrie, Brisbane and are worth having a look.
There is a map on their website below.

The link to lakeside's site and the flyer-
http://users.tpg.com.au/wyvern01/

I might add instead of a running pig or goat, they have a body board in the shape of a stingray towed through the creek on a two way pulley.
So the operator can give it a quick tug in either direction to make it a challenge
(I have been told it is shallow enough not to lose arrows, rumour maybe?).

Should be a good one, see you there.

Cheers,
Justin

Shooters get to 50m to shoot, but only a hunter gets inside 20m to hunt.

Not sure if it is only ABA or not. Have sent an e-mail to find out and am awaiting a reply. Will post when I find out.

The shoot is open to all trad archers.

About the creek being shallow enough to collect arrows. Last year it was but stank to high heaven and I was not going in. The bad side of the depth is that arrows stuck in the mud just under surface of the water. I would rather it deep so the arrows just float and you can scoop em out. Was all good fun anyhow.

They had a couple of other running targets along the courses as well as the stingray.

Thanks for doing Justin's work Mark. It's been a long long time since I was at Lakeside for a shoot; probably around 1996.

Sorry guys, but between work and some family issues, I haven't had time to get back to all of you.

As for being 'half cocked', I was just trying to get the word out, seems its only a few weeks away.

Cheers,
Justin

If it follows usual ABA format that would be ok but probably attract late fee on top of nomination money.

I think they want nominations mainly for catering purposes. Cameron would prefer you nominate and pull out if you can't make it rather than just turn up.

Dont think I'm going now. Hoped to have made my first 'boo' bow for the shoot but the Binghams order is doing its own little tour around the world, and i have no idea just where it is except 'enroute to its destination'. Seeing as it has already gone via Canada I have little faith in getting it any time soon and almost no chance of being able to get the bow made in time.As I've mentioned if it was raining 'putas' I would end up flushed down the gutter with a 'nancy boy' Still ' carpe diem' its all we got.

Thanks to Lakeside Bowmen for a good weekend. I could not shoot on Saturday but had a good day none the less catching up with folks I had not seen for a while. Shoot today and the coarses where a good balance of Fun, Challenging shots and best of all getting to shoot plenty of Arrows.

The Swimming Croc sucked !!!!. I missed a shot, had to lay on my belly in the mud, reach under the water and pull it from the muddy bank - Good on Ya's, the Mrs yelled at me when I got home all covered in Mud, made me do my own washing :?

Yes it was a ripper shoot. Not a big crowd but excellent range and interesting targets. The gorrilla jumping down from the trees was a beauty. Some of the pegs had two targets to shoot at and if you weren't looking carefully enough it was easy to miss some hiding in the grass.

Cant help myself - forgive me, I do not mean to be a smarty or appear to be having a go - It is the furthest thing from my mind :D :D :D

Follow my lead, don't hand in a score card - that way your free from all the Bow technology / division crap and just shooting for the joy of doing so and the pleasure of the company of folks that love filling the air with arrows.

I saw that chap there, he had a smile on his face, seemed to be enjoying the challenge. In the end he had the joy of participating. I also note that Dave Pender shooting what passes for a Longbow under ABA rules won buy approx 300 points from 3rd place, with 2nd place not far ahead of third.

Someone forgot to tell Dave you can't shoot a Trad Bow that well !!!!! Dave's Bow had a Riser that some would regard as oversize - In the end it boiled down too the best Archer won 8) 8)

Yep and you can spend a bit of time taking photos without being concerned how it effects your score. :D
