Short answer, it is spotlighting, not Bowhunting.

Long answer, if you are using a spotlight you are finding (hunting) the bunny by spotlight. You then have the choice of how you kill it, shottie, rifle, bow etc.

IMO if you were bowhunting the bunnies you would be finding them (unaided by atificial light), stalking them and then shooting them with a bow and arrow.

I'm not saying there is anything wrong with the practice but it is just not Bowhunting to me is all.

In NO way do I consider it HUNTING . But I reckon it would be fun , and a great way to get some bunnies for the pot at night when I am bored senseless as there is nothing on the TV I want to watch .
It would also be done with the compound with sights .
Anyway , just putting the idea out there and asking for opinions , I am sure there are a lot of other less savoury hunting practices going on .

I actually haven't thought about spotlighting bunnies, then shooting them with a bow...Personally I think it is also bowhunting...

I had a good idea though...so you don't loose your arrows at night, you could wrap a reflective sticker round the arrow.
i have seen these stickers in "super cheap auto" shop...don't know what they are actually meant for....just an idea.

Or if you wanted to waste alot of money you could use those firenocks or whatever there called, personally i think they are pointless and the stickers would do :)

It doesn't matter at all what others think of it, if it is legal and you are having fun then go for it :)

I did it years ago when I live at home on the farm, it was fun. So I did not lose my arrows I painted the nock ends with the glo in the dark tee shirt paint that you can get at spotlight. You just had to charge up the paint before you shot the arrow.

IMO I dont think theres anything wrong with it. I think spotlighting is a great way of hunting and giving yourself a higher chance for game. I would use a gun though for anything bigger than a rabbit if spotlighting. Go get some meat!

coach in the uk we cant bowhunt so am jealous  so if its legal go for it here though there is a lot of lamping done for vermin (rabbits foxes ) rifle shotgun dogs air rifles (lurchers ) only problem is the sodding poachers ( not the old guy taking one for the pot ) but what you call doggers it has a totaly different meaning here   the drive 4x4s with roo bars for running the deer down and have pitbull x dogs also have them ferreting areas and long netting killing anything they can and leaving places littered with remains .

There is nothing wrong with ferrets or long netting when they behave properly but now anyone out at night is a suspect sorry for the longish post just go for it  cheers

sounds a good idea to me.especially if they are a bit thin on the ground in a particular area.as you will see more at night.or if your belting them alot in the daytime and there getting to jumpy.you might want to try using different filters on the lamp aswell.red, yellow, blue.you going put up any pics of your set up.?

That's a bit of a hard one Jeff.......the question, that is.

It makes sense and I have done it. It is really pest control with a bow that is actually more difficult than using a light with a rifle. You still have to get pretty close and the beasties have better night sight. I actually used to wear a spotlight headlamp with backpack battery. My main purpose was to knock off feral cats and foxes. I took a whistle with me and took out 8 or 9 foxes an evening at lambing time plus a few bunnies. Did not upset the stock and no accidents with long distance incorrect identification of pest target. The stronger spotlight was really useful to pan around and be aware of broader ranging risk factors. I had a variable switch and walked around with low light. It was a win/win. Night pest control, good exercise, good animal husbandry, great fun........GREAT FUN.........extra bunnie stew was a great bonus, especially at the price of meat now.

I also used a .22 with low noise loads, sub sonics, just as often with only a slightly greater amount of success.
