few fillets

#1 Post by otis.drum » Mon Jun 22, 2009 1:53 am

chucked in early yesterday and cruised up river for a fish before my night shift. plenty of crocs, fish, sharks, see snakes, sea eagles and fun all round.

3 sharks, 4 barra, 3 blue salmon, 5 fingermark, and a few barracuda.

here's the best of them.

Good on ya, Otis!
It's the great, big, broad land 'way up yonder,
It's the forests where silence has lease;
It's the beauty that thrills me with wonder,
It's the stillness that fills me with peace.

nice fish mate!
mission or the embley? i'll have a guess it's the mission. 3 barra with a 81 cm and a 72cm is a great effort for june with cold water.

hmmm..... i've hunted pigs up near there. :) :) i'll pm you where to leave the boat when i'm back on my own computer. (GPS points on google earth) didn't get anything but they were there. i could hear them, just couldn't see them in the 4' high grass that was there at the time of year that i went.

glenn, where we fish we always leave a big mullet (semi alive) out in the middle of the creek/river hoping to catch a couple of sharks (for the fight and the flake) while we fish the snags and shallows. large salmon often take the mullet out there and they fight like all hell. this one did circles of the boat, going in and under every line we had in, around snags and back out, ran down the river and play games the whole time he was on. we were just glad to get him close enough to see what it was. a bonus to land him. its a great noise when that rods ratchet sounds, and line peels off up the river.

Otis, salmon are a hard fish to beat for their fight qualities alone. I have had a few battles with them off the rocks when I lived at Airlie Beach in the 70's. I had a big one strip the grears of my baitcaster one morning...Glenn...
