'70s / '80s traditional bowhunting photos, anyone? (Please)

#1 Post by Benny Nganabbarru » Tue Apr 21, 2009 7:28 pm

G'day fellows,

I was wondering if it would be alright to start a thread of traditional bowhunting snapshots from yester-year, possibly the the '70s (or earlier) and '80s.

A very cool thread on TradGang was something similar.

So, if you can, please share one or two (or more) pieces of your bowhunting history with us whipper-snappers.

Thank you,

Ben

Ben, scan the photos on here. http://www.trophytakers.org/main.htm

I'm not sure if this is traditional or what, but if it ain't '80s then I don't know what is.

Rossy,

That last photo of Jamesy and those of Dave Whiting are bit more recent than the eighties I would think. :D

Jamesy's one of the best shots with a Trad bow I have seen.

I have a 10x8 original of Cols upside down monster here somewhere. However that may be out of date range too, cant remember. Maybe 92'?

Still, a great photo!

I love the photo of Tom Hill and the packet of Marlboro ciggies in the top pocket, brings back memories. Toms Australian style back quiver with the extra strap, nothing better...Glenn...

Glenn, Tom still has the same quiver and uses it at club shoots. I had a chuckle last shoot , as he was asking about a bow quiver  .

but that style of quiver, was popular down here. With a local leatherman punching out a few

This was my first Goat in 1982 I think?
It was shot with a 60lb@ 28" WAGOK takedown recurve. Which was lent to me after I bounced a broadhead off the shoulder of a pig earlier that day with my new PSE citation 50lb compound bow. This was the last time I shot the citation and gave it away straight after the trip and continued to shoot the WAGOK for many years until the top limb broke. (Sad day)

Good photo Steve, it looks like Mulga country. The old WAGOK recurves were very popular back then. I think Kev Whiting started importing them back in the early to mid 1970's (which was before my time by the way). :D

I will have to see if I can find some time over the weekend to dig out some old albums and scan a few photos.

I got the bow from Peter Lucas. He lent it to me initially and then sold it to me for $150.00. I loved this bow and was very put out when I broke a limb. I could not find a replacement anywhere. I eventually gave the bow to the bow hut for a few bucks as a trade in on my bear recurve which I still use today when I'm not shooting my longbow.
I will scan some more photos as well. It was a lot of fun going though the old photos. Brought back many good memories.

I can imagine mate. I got one of my old albums out earlier and had a grin at what I saw. I will try and scan some photos later.
