Heading out with the stick in the morning!

#1 Post by gundy » Sat Aug 23, 2003 7:10 pm

My first traditional outing of sorts...

will keep everybody posted of the outcome and will post some pics up tommorrow night.

Hopefully be able to harvest some goats, foxes and maybe a deer...

Wish me luck fellas, I think I will need it. :?

Oh yeah, I had a question, do you guys hunt eith ya sticks and feathers in the wet?

Reason being, it is ******* down outside at present, good for stalking, but not quite so good for the turkey feathers I am guessing...

I hunt with my bows in the rain every chance I get, but you do have to keep those turkey feathers dry. That's why I have a set fletched with goose feathers because they are water proof and don't lay down like the turkey feathers.
Good luck with the hunting Gundy and pick a spot....Glenn....

goats, foxes and maybe a deer...
- blimey, that's a good hunt if you see all that, much less get a shot, yes?

I fish in foul weather, with good success: they're less wary! I suspect land animals are similar, although shifting breezes could be a problem, if they accompany the wind. But, anything that disguises the unavoidable noise I make when stalking has to be a good thing, in my book, so I'll put up with getting a soaking. On another site I post as Rain Dog because the wife said I stunk like wet dog after coming home in all that wet wool

Woof woof :P

Go get 'em Guy! Can't wait to join you!

3) Get out of car.
4) String ya bow.
5) Go hunting.

Was good to meet you the other day, sorry work got in the way, I was looking forward to seeing some nice bows and other tid bits.

All the best Guy. Hope you have an enjoyable day. In an emergency you could give your feathers a quick spray with some hair sray to help keep them dry. Make sure it isn't a smelly type though. Jeff

Hey Jeff, there's a hair spray that isn't smelly? Good tip though, I'd never thought of that. Now, while the wife isn't looking.... oh, forgot, she doesn't use the stuff :?

Guy, let's know how you went! How about next weekend for a hunt? I can get up early and make it to your place in time for a day trip, if you're up for it next weekend? :P

cheers all,

Erron

Holy crap! What a day....

Will give a description of how it went tomorrow. Too tired now, the weather, wet ground conditions and having to hunt extremely thick scrub really took it's toll on us today. 8 hrs of walking, but, results were okay.

I took a couple of shots at goats without connecting, but my brother landed a nice one for the area. It all happened, I had goats all around from 3 yds to 23 yds on more than one occassion. A fun day...

More later.

Next weekend should be okay Erron, I will call you during the week mate.

Not many photos were taken, here is one of myself getting ready to whistle up a few red coats.

I have updated my photo's page over at BGA with this one and the small billy my bro snagged today (he uses one of them training wheel type bows... ).

Just wondering if anyone esle has noticed how highly visible Guy's hands are in this photo? It really highlights to me the need to camouflage your hands esp when you consider how much they move when you're hunting, drawing, shooting etc.

What do you boys reckon?
