No extended stuff, i get to do the odd day trip at the moment.

Trout season just opened recently too so I'll have to share my time between the riverbank and the bush. Saw a couple of nice runs and pools in my favourite stream today, might get back there next weekend time permitting. :)

I know what you mean about the fishing Erron. When it gets hot the water temp rises and I loooovvve chasing Barra and Sooties. I get confused easy, don't know if I want to hunt or to fish.

Fenton have you fished for the big sooties in Eungella Dam? I couldn't believe how big they get, I will have to have a fish for them one day.

Nah not in Eungella, but have in Teemburra and Prossie Dam. They get absolutely huge in all three, my best to date is 51 cm fish and I can tell you they take some pulling up at that size. Mate if you ever up this way and want to have a go at the big buggers just give me a yell, I will use ant excuse to chase them :) . The one in the photo with Derek was 52 cm, when it hit it buried him so fast that to get him I hade to near swim to untangle the mess :D

Just returned from 10 days of chasing moose in the northern interior. Shared a camp with friends I don't see very often, laughed lots, almost got eaten by a bear, and (for the first time in 7 years) returned home mooseless. Good trip but the echo in my freezer is prompting me to get out locally a bit more for blacktails. :D

Hope to put a couple of fallows in the freezer after Christmas.

Tuffcity,

Sounds like it was a great time. I think a moose would more than fill a freezer wouldn't it? Also those bears would worry me. How do you get a good nights sleep with them wanting to share your sleeping bag?

If any of you blokes get down South, I'll take you fly-fishing for some trout, if that sort of thing takes your fancy.

Of course, that's after we finish chasing things with arras...

Going hunting

#13 Post by Basalt » Thu Oct 16, 2003 8:42 am

I fly out of Townsville tomorrow to Darwin then on to Kununurra Saturday morning then a two hour drive back into the N.T. to Bullo River Station 500,000 acres. I'll have five days of Buff, Boars, Bulls and Barra. I'm taking my 70lb Newell bow and some arrows I hand planed and tappered out of Quilia they are now tipped with shaving sharp 145gn Grizzly's overall weight of 770gn and vasalined. Australian Biggame Adventures has just opened up at Bullo River and I'll be their first bowhunter. I've got my heart set on a good Buff but he'll have to be broadside and close so I might come home with all my arrows untouched but that's bowhunting!!

The people you meet! Best of luck Ol mate, Boomslang will look after you, I put all the good Mojo in him. Tuffcity , sounds like a nice place to be , your part of the world. I'm keen on a Caribou ( sp) and I just love the look of B.C. Of cause this is after I hunt Africa.

Good luck on the hunt to the cape fenton , have a beer for me.

basalt, the mention of kwila as a shaft material surprised me, offcuts of decking from building sites were inspected for the purpose of arrow making but the grain was so insane i canned the idea immediatly, perhaps u found some good stuff....russ

Didnt see much on the last pig run down the line probably seen 25/30 pigs
but only a couple of good boars.

The temp is just about right at 40+ come on Nov 17 i got the quad fueled at breathin fire .

"now tipped with shaving sharp 145gn Grizzly's overall weight of 770gn and vasalined."

All jokes aside - what does the Vasaline do?

(get the feeling I just left myself open to all sorts of below the belt comments)

(Also get the feeling that last paragraph won't help matters.)

ozlongbow,

before this spirals into another "shaft penetration" type thread :D ...

I vaseline the broadheads on arrows to stop them from rusting. Can't comment on other peoples usage of the stuff though. :D

Gday Butcho
How's did the BF goodrich's handle the mud on the last great hunting trip.HAAAAA !!!!!!!. Did you slip over much while stalking the pigs,it must have been nice and quite with the leaves being all damp......
Was it hard to light a fire mate, they tell mamba's are good for starting fires in the wet. IF you try this number first 07 474932221 before you leave they might be able to help you it's the dept of meteorology haaaaaaa

Hay Strowy, she was a bit boggy but with some fine navigation skills by Sir Cliffy we found our way out on to the hard black road, the old troopy was like a WRX but only more orsome. I got about 2 wheelbarrows full of mud off the troopy when I got home and that was after 250 K's of bitumen road .

It's the only place I've hunted on that has crocs in the bore drains, and the roo's where realy thick.
