what's worth eating?
Curiousity is getting the better of me and I have to ask. Have you guys tried eating any (all?) of the critters you tip over? This isn't a "you shouldn't kill what you won't eat" query- I realize that a lot of things are pests, etc and I don't preach that sermon or even presume to pass judgement on another region's customs/rules when it comes to hunting.
But are there animals worth frying up or are most just ant food?
RC (standing by with hot sauce... )
- if no one wants to touch this please PM me and I'll crater the thread.

Tuffcity,I come from NewZealand,Here we eat most of our critters.
The few we don,t eat would be things like,Ferrets, stoats and some of the pest birds.I have eaten Australian possom,a pest that was introduced here
a long time ago and is now a major problem. They taste ok but smell so bad in the cleaning process they put you right off.We also have a few introduced fish that are not eaten but are shot.
Wild goat is eaten by some, but not others. If you want a good eating goat
you don,t chose an old billy,They smell something evil and are as tough as
old boots.when I go for an eater it will be under twelve months,Then it is
a prime feed.
All the Deer an pigs ect are eaten but you must check for certain parasites
and TB.I am mainly a pot hunter but if a pest critter crosses my path I will
aways try to get rid of it if I can.
Good hunting,,Jack.

G'day Tuffcity,
Very valid question. As you already know a lot of the game shot in Australia are ferral and shot (humanely) in part to assist in eradication.
However a lot of the animals are good eating. Two of my favourites are goat and pig roasted in a camp oven. Other game that is eaten regularly are all the deer species, rabbits, buff and camels.
You have to be careful with disease in some of these and in particular the wild pig and also goats.
Believe it or not in some instantces there can be legal ramifications if you take the meat home and eat it. Absurd isn't it?
I'm sure others will have further info for you.

G'day Erron, yer mate Strowie had a heap of recipes for cat.
I was wondering what the sweet and sour was doing in his backpack, when we went on our last 50K hike / hunt, now we all know.
I would like to have tried it BUT, getting between this man and a feed is a very dangerous thing to do. He starts to growl and hiss and spit.
It's safer to stick with your baked beans.

Nothin wrong with a bit of pussy mate !!!
I like cats just as much as the next person it's just that i can't eat a whole one yet.
Trouble is the next morning you start coughing up fur balls and peeing on the window of your car. Which in itself ain't to bad but the dents in the roof are a little hard to explain to the bride and the black hairs between your teeth can take some talking around !!!!! If you know what i mean...
