Anyone been to jackals hide?

Hello all,
Has anyone been out to jackals hide for a hunt and a fish and would care to share their experience?
I'm keen to have a crack at a murray cod as Iv never chased them before, what's the best time of year to go after cod? Any must have lures to take along? Or would bait be a better option?
I'm also keen to try and crack a rusa as they are occasionally found on the property itself. Has anyone seen many there? Or is the property mostly fallow. Again is there a better time of year to chase Rusa? Will they respond to a call?
Any other input or first hand knowledge of the property or targeting cod/rusa/fallow deer would be greatly appreciated.
