Greatplains Anniversary Fallow Rut.

#1 Post by Guy Layton » Sun Dec 13, 2015 3:29 pm

Hi Guys,

I hope you are all well..

Just thought a few of you would like to see a few pictures of mine whilst hunting this seasons fallow rut...

Whilst scouting early in the season I glassed a few nice bucks and also managed to knock over a few other critters along the way...

Here is a young buck with a bit of foliage stuck to his rack..

Here is a nice young billy I managed.... I was on my way out of this one particular property when this guy was feeding in some black berries... I slipped a cedar shaft into him from about 15m slightly quarting away...

This young sow poked its head out from its bed mid afternoon... I wouldn't normally have knocked this girl over, but I had just spooked a nice chocolate buck from his bed and lost him, so I was a bit frustrated to say the least... so the stinker got it...!

On this particular day I had multiple bucks croaking around me... I rattled one in early in the day, but offered no shot before he busted me... But as it sometimes happens the stars align and the day works out for the best...!
Later that day as I was heading home I spotted these two young bucks following up a group of does... I found a good position to kneel and decided to try and doe call them... Well lucky for me these two young bucks decide to come in simultaneously...
I said to myself regardless of which of the two bucks come into range first he was going to have it...
The younger buck poked its head over first and I let him have it... It was a perfect shot with the wood arrow entering tight behind his shoulder at around 10m... Well I knew it was a kill as he ran straight passed me pouring out blood from his opposite side...
As I knew he wasn't the bigger of the two I decided to send out another doe call... Well lucky for me the second and bigger buck decided to follow the lasts bucks footsteps toward me... Again lucky for me I placed another perfect arrow form the exact same spot I was still kneeling from... Words could not explain the feeling I was feeling at that moment.... Two bucks down within 30 seconds of each other... A moment I will never forget....!!!!

I hope you all enjoy...

Cheers Guy

Here is the first buck....

And obviously the bigger second buck...

The broadhead used, regardless of how sharp, is no where as important as being able to place it in the correct spot....!

What a fantastic trip.

You must be over the moon with all of that mate. Nice mixed bag, and the two bucks in one go - well done!

Nice work Guy. You have an awesome variety and selection of game to choose from locally it seems. Bit jealous of that. :)

Great work, Guy!
It's the great, big, broad land 'way up yonder,
It's the forests where silence has lease;
It's the beauty that thrills me with wonder,
It's the stillness that fills me with peace.
