longbow goat

it's been a long time coming but I finally got a goat with the Bama longbow

20 yard shot and the goat was down in about 30 yards

was butchered and will be good on the palate I reckon

It looks like it will be very tasty. It's just the right size. Well done.

What sort of shafts are you using there? Have you ever managed to cut yourself on your exposed broadheads? I've got one of those Kwikee quivers too, but I haven't used it since the day I managed to slice myself.
There is no use focusing on aiming if you don't execute the shot well enough to hit what your are aiming at.

the bow Mick is a Bama Hunter longbow 65'' #55@28...unfortunately because of my short draw( im only drawing a bit over forty pounds(unless my scales are lying to me) arrows are Easton 1916 aluminium cut to just under 28'' and the broadheads are tusker Aztec 210gr...as far as cutting myself or anything else ...no not as yet mate, I very careful and always aware the are exposed.. but in saying so mate I got the kwikee of the internet real cheap but I will probably get a better one later so they are not exposed

Congrats on your longbow goat and may it be the first of many! :handgestures-thumbupleft:

I too would suggest getting a quiver that covers those broadheads asap. IMO it is only a matter of time before something, or worse, someone gets cut by them when being carried like that.

Congratulations Ozzy a great milestone with the Longbow, did well to get into 20 as there isn't much cover there. I have been using the Aztec as well for years they are a great head.

Hi mate yes you must be pulling around the 40# mark if 1916's work well for you especially with 210gr head up front!
What sort of distance was he shot at?
Why i am so keen to know these things is that i am limited to shotting up to a max of 50#; most of my shooting is done at 45# some at 40# and i wonder if that sort of weight is OK for hunting all of our usual game species except buffs banteng etc.
I would be interested in yours and the thoughts of others.

g'day Ian sorry for the late reply mate I don't get on here much anymore......that goat was shot at about 20 yards and the arrow nearly made it all the way through, just the fletching still in on the exit side of the goat....arrow weight was 525gr ....performed well on a goat but not sure if that weight will perform on a pig as I have not shot one yet with the bow...maybe some-one else on here could answer that

Great hunting Ozzy, can almost taste goat curry just looking at it.

I dunno about tackling big old cranky boars with 40#, they can have quite thick pads on the shoulders. May be OK if you only took quartering away shots perhaps?
