I'm Back From NZ and still alive

Well to say hunting in NZ is a bit different to hunting in OZ would be an understatement.
Hell those hills are big, thank goodness for a 4X4 to get up most of them.
The hunting started out great 1 rabbit and 1 goat on the ground in the first 15 mins.
Thats where it ended for me, no more animals put on the ground for me for the rest of the trip.
Nigel who I was hunting with, he had a slow start with nothing on the ground in the first 3 days, then in the last 24 hours 3 goats
I did have 3 Red deer walk to within 20m of me, but we could not get a shoot at them as all we could see was their heads in the thick bush.

I also spent a few hours hunting a hydrangea farm for rabbits, anyone who wants to try and shoot a rabbit at 100m this is the place to go.

My last day in NZ was shooting a round of the Kiwi 3D comp. It was a great 1 day shoot with max distance for trad bows 35 yards targets
where very well place with most of them making you work for the points.

Here the few photos I got hopefully Nigel will send me a few more off his camera.

Archery is a simple game, it's the mind that over complicates it.

It's always a bit of a downer when you don't get the big prize but mate what a beautiful place to wander with a bow and spend a few days of your life! And to see red deer alive and free and that close is also a reward. We may be hunters but its not just about killing eh? Its a magickal journey that, reminds me of some parts of Europe, so green. I reckon that amount of green, as long as it isn't all day everyday, is a trip for the brain in itself, no need for mushies. (tip: the tiny ones with little gold points are the go ....)
