Saluki Spiker...

Hi guys,

I thought a few of you might like to have a look at my recent fallow hunt with the Saluki... :biggrin:

This picture is one of the many scrapes and rub trees I encountered along the way... 8)

I managed to belly slide 50m to get within 40m of this guy... unfortunately his does busted me... :cry:

Spiker down... 8m broadside shot with him down in 30m.... Words cannot explain.....

I hope you enjoyed my hunt.... Although this animal isn’t by no means a record breaker, it is by far my most rewarding kill to date... Both meat and skin was harvested and the battle to drop one of these animals was done... :biggrin:

great stuff guy. deer are by far the hardest of game to seal the deal on with trad gear. that spiker my friend is a true trophy and no doubt will be in your memory for the rest of your days.
i have been close to sealing the deal myself lately but for me the saga continues.

Hi Clinton, Thanks mate... As you may know I have been trying to seal the deal for the last few years... Its a hard work this trad gear stuff, but that's why we do it... In saying that I had got to the point of going out and hunting these great animals and expecting not to succeed... If it wasn't for an old Trad guy that gave me the confidence that I could do it... it may not have happened...

Congratulations Guy a memory that will last a life time for shore. Just got back from a fellow hunt with chuck and had my chance twice and blew the shots both up hill at about 15-20 and didn't compensate for the drop up hill, fell for the shot twice (buck fever Ill blame) dam dam. Will nock a story up soon but am off to NZ next Wednesday for 3 weeks living the dream, but eating baked beans who cares.

Thanks Wayno, Bad luck on the bucks buddy.... They are a hard animal to tag with the trad gear that's for sure... Ah well... next year..!

Nice work Guy. Did you take the brain for tanning? What made you choose the Saluki over the other bows in your armoury?

Hi Indie, Thank you... :biggrin:

No mate, I've left the tanning process up to my mate Kev Daley of http://www.bowmanstaxidermy.com.au/ He does all my animals. 8)

Have you done brain tanning before...?

In answer to you question about the Saluki.... Although I shoot some of my other bows better then the Saluki... I have just always had this vision of taking a fallow with this bow... cant really tell you why... I suppose you don't see to many people taking game with these types of bows and maybe that's the attraction for me... 8)

I was just shooting a few of my other bows over the weekend and trying to decide on which bow to hunt with next.... Not sure as yet though... Maybe a Bamboo backed bow again... :mrgreen:
