Predator

#1 Post by Jack Spinks » Tue Oct 15, 2013 8:49 am

Just recently tested the Predator camo out and had great results, here are a few billies I nailed while wearing it, Ol red was a billy I had been chasing for probably 12months, a very smart and wise billy who has blown every stalk for me and has really tested me out over the weeks. never could I get within 100m of this fella, but last week he met my arrow after I caught him feeding into the wind. I set up ambush and at 3m he stood angling away and the shot took out the magic triangle resulting in a very short blood trail, I was stoked!!

Just as I was about to go and check out the Ol red billy, I noticed another mob following his path and at 15m another billy took an arrow into his chest and lost his legs after about 20m. A week before I had stalked into open ground with only a few bushes covering my body, caught out in the open the goats still didn't notice I was there. After I set up the camera and tripod I stalked within 25m of a big bodied white fella and took the shot as he walked into view, he ran in circles after a massive leap and succumbed to his wounds only seconds later.

These were just a couple ive recently taken and all 3 not bad billies, I don't mind the camo and it looks great when filming also.
for those interested the gear I use is a 60#recurve, CX Heritage shafts with 175g Ribtek broadheads, a great setup for how I hunt.
Enjoy

Yeah mate great to see thanks. By the way what part of the country do you live in as you haven't put that in your profile.

Also what size are your Ribtek's as the 175 grains has me beat. They were never made in that size so are they the 190's sharpened a bit to loose the weight?

Great billies mate. I use a mix of Ridgeline and Predator camo for deer hunting and it works really well, both brands really suit aussie conditions I reckon.

Thanks lads, I live south western NSW, where I mainly hunt is around the town of Balranald NSW towards Ivanhoe..

Yeah my broadheads are the 135g ribteks with a 40g solid adapter, which brings the broadhead weight up to 175g sorry should have explained that haha,

Thanks for the info Jack. I had to look up Balranald in google to see where it was. It must be great having good hunting reasonably close.

Yeah that clears things up. Those heads were actually produced and marketed by Col (the maker) as the 132W head.

Thanks once again and I enjoy reading and seeing the photos of your tips out bush.

Yeah it sure is my girlfriend lives in Balranald so when I stay over its 15m to my goat block, great hunting but difficult for access and national parks run all the good spots, poachers also make things very difficult. Yeah they're a brilliant head, those 135g with the chisel tip are ideal for me,

Hi Jack,

Ol Red reminds me of a nanny on a property I used to hunt... where she always just had a little more smarts then the rest of them.... She always prevented me of getting close to the big boy... :x

Anyway... That property has now changed hands and my opportunity now is on hold... 8)

Congrats on taking Ol red...

Cheers Guy
The broadhead used, regardless of how sharp, is no where as important as being able to place it in the correct spot....!

G'day Guy, yeah in sure every hunter has stumbled across an animal that makes us feel like we're not as smart as we thought.. He copped an earful every time I was busted by him which all makes the end result that much more satisfying.. Thanks mate

What a prize, they are really nice animals.

I like to see more than just yourself appreciating the moment. Thanks for the post.

Some serious goats there Jack, very nice work. A 60# recurve would rip my arm off I think!

Do you take the horns for trophies? What do you do with the goats once shot?

Yeah when I take a nice billy I take the head and boil it out for the trophy wall, the big fellas stink and that taints the meat so take the young ones for meat, take the back legs for dog tucker etc..

Put it this way, I would never put a billy skin rug in my house. I don't believe you could ever get rid of the smell. I had a taxidermist do a billy head mount for me back in 1986 and to this day in dampish weather it still stinks!!! They don't call'em 'Stinkers' for nothin'.

Shame they stink as they look like they'd make a nice rug. Still, knocking them off is a good thing.

A nanny skin can make a nice rug Indie as they don't have the smell that the billies do.

What about a billy goat skin quiver Jeff, you wouldn't have to worry so much about wind changes while your hunting
