- Britta and I were on our way out to arrow a goat when we spotted this fella feeding on a dead snake as we drove past. So Britta said I should have a crack, he hid in the crop than popped his head up so I aimed where I thought his chest would be.. Arrow took out his chest and he passed out within 10m.

yeah cats are difficult to obtain with traditional gear, I have respect for men and women who can down foxes and cats with trad gear, this particular cat was a monster, came into the fox whistle and nailed him from 4 m with a Woodsman head..

Re: A few from this yr..
yeah cats are great but ive never set out to hunt them always just seem to come across them, Steve fairly simple like boiling pig hooks, I just use like an old spaghetti tin and fill it with water and chuck it on an open fire, the tin is thin so it boils fast and just chop the cat head off and chuck her in. keep checking it after half hour and before long the skin seperates. I do a heap of pig hooks because my bros and I catch a few with dogs and onced boiled steel wool polishes them really well and gets rid of any sinew or skin that didn't boil off. hope this helps, also add some bleach or disenfectent to if its gunna be in the house. cheers jack

The broadhead used, regardless of how sharp, is no where as important as being able to place it in the correct spot....!

Thanks fellas
Every time I have been lucky enough to nail a cat was on hunts I didn't expect to see them, most of them have come into the fox whistle while looking for a fox.. Where as a fox with fly in a cat will stalk in..
Cheers jack

I have a pet cat here at home & I don't mind telling you I love it...wouldn't stop me pluggin' a feral one if given the chance, though! Had a couple of goes at ferals here on the island, but they sprung me both times.
Awesome stuff, Jack, they're a lot harder to get the drop on than folk may think! Good billies, too! Had a good year, hunt-wise, hey?

My misses says "no photos of dead cats on the living room wall" but if I had a photo like that last one I would put it up anyway, too high for her to reach it . Beaudy dead cat photo mate.

Nah, doesn't offend me at all, matey. Lot of difference between my belled, desexed, indoor-at-night cat and a feral beast. She just sometimes kills rats and mice (and brings 'em to me as a "gift" ), ferals kill millions of natives a year. It was feral, so good onya! Shows real skill, Jack, they're not easy to hunt!

Yeah wasn't a pretty sight haha... Nether less to smack a cat with our choice of bows is difficult but very rewarding, my first cat a few yrs back copped an arrow under the chest just nicking a main arterie under the chest from 8m while it snuck in behind me while whistling for foxes.. Didn't think I hit it until the shaft was sticky

Now this is what I would call a 'Religious Experience" I have shot cats on many occasions with riffles shot guns and air riffles but taking one out with a bow is just something I truly envy.Jack Spinks wrote:Yeah wasn't a pretty sight haha... I admire the Cat for its pure beauty stealth and survive ability make no mistake. But the damage it does to our native wildlife because of this exact reason makes it all the more a perfect Game animal.
They are smart, quiet and almost invisible and to be in the right place and the right time takes some doing!
This is what this forum is all about!!!!! I dont know if there is anything more I can say

I can't take the credit for the kills as I've been lucky enough to be in the right place at the right time, and was lucky enough my arrow flew true, a tip I use a bit when whistling for foxes every now and again I flip my tin whistle over and it's quite raspy sounds like a baby cocky that's fallen out of a tree,, that's how I've nailed my cats
