1st Hunting Trip
Finally got to go on my 1st proper hunting trip. Thanks to the planning of my father Inlaw who introduced me to archery.
We went out for a long weekend trip to Longreach. After all the rain we were lucky to get there but the Troopy got us through to the property.
The 1st day I didn't have any luck after 2 failed stalks on goats and 1 opportunity missed. 15mtrs from a Billy broadside and i completly missed the shot, then the second. I couldn't understand what i was doing wrong, I would never miss a shot like that at the practice range! My Father Inlaw was standing close by directing me in and saw it all unravel. Gave me some advice and we moved on. Must have been beginners nerves, dropping my arm early to see where the shot was going and not following through on it.
The 2nd day was alot more rewarding, we got out early and spotted a large mob of goats out on the flats feeding. I made it to a tree in the path that the mob were feeding, checked the wind and waited for them to pass. 15 minutes went by which felt like an eternity but they were getting close. I picked a Billy out of the mob and waited him out. By the time the Billy was 30mtrs or so away, a Nanny caught a wiff of me and started coughing. I though it was all over at that point. I held my ground and he made it to shooting distance. Sent an arrow flying with me Bare 60# Recurve and the arrow found its spot.
He ran a short distance and Layed down.
My 1st Game ever taken and couldn't be happier!
The Trip ended with 2 more successful stalks and 2 more goats taken. Both were lung shots.
Im addicted now, hopefully we can give the Pigs abit of a hiding next time. And the mud below the knee level too!
I used my #60 Pse Mustang with carbon arrows and Ribtek's

Re: 1st Hunting Trip
Well done Chewy, once you get a couple on the ground you are addicted. I have bowshot a lot of critters over the years but now I get more of a buzz out of hunting them with the recurve.
Enjoy the trad journey, cheers Macca.

Great work mate...
The broadhead used, regardless of how sharp, is no where as important as being able to place it in the correct spot....!
