First Time Bow Fishing in NZ

#1 Post by Scrub Bull » Tue Jan 29, 2013 5:39 pm

It started with a phone call the night before we where due to leave NZ. Stickshooter asks what you doing in the morning? Want to go bow fishing? Hell yes!
So just hours before getting on the plane back to OZ here I am walking around a farmers paddock, with one of Stickshooter"s
bow fishing setups, taking shots at Koi Carp. These things are living in the drainage ditches on the farm and there are 100's of them. It takes me about 25 shots to work out what to do, then we get one of these giant Gold Fish. Just as I pull in my first fish, the farmer comes by gives me a pat on the back and tells me go shoot some more and who am I to argue with a farmer.

Lucky bugger, I was watching schools of carp in a river a couple of weeks ago. If only they would let us the numbers might be reduced somewhat to give the natives a sporting chance. Thanks for the pics. Steve

It feels like NZ is a lot more open minded about their hunting rules.
They want the carp gone, the only rule I found was don't put them back in the water.
Its kind of easy hunting, no camo needed, wind direction who cares, just shoot them before they see you.

Gday

nice work!

its allowed in South Australia, under the PIRSA fishing regulations. only for carp, not in the main stream of the murray from memory

cheers

Looks like a great way to spend a morning. I would have been a bit anxious about missing my flight though.

Cheers...... Rod

It was a great day for a wander with friends shooting some carp,
then back home for Rotisserie goat for lunch.
I can't believe how tight your hunting & fishing regs have got,
Do you think they will wake up when your over run with ferals
