3 pigs in 3 shots
i visited some friends in the territory back in september and did some fishing and hunting while i was up there.
thought i might share some pics of a hunt that turned out to be great.
1st kill of the trip was a boar. i spotted him at a distance laying under a shady paperbark in a creek.
i snuck in to about 14-15m which was as close as i could get being where he was. one of those times where it's 15m or 2m and i'm pretty sure he wasn't going to let me get to 2m.
he was laying on his side quarting to me in a small depression. so the effective kill zone was a small one. i had to hit him just behind his head where the arrow would angle down into his goodies.
well after all my practise i felt confident and took my time. i went through my shot routine and made one of the best shots i have made on an animal. i can still see the little yellow dot just get smaller as it made it's way there. man i was on a high! the arrow buried to the feathers and when he got up the blackstump was poking out of his pizzle. i then just stood back and watched the action.
the entry hole-
one happy hunter with a nice boar for his efforts-
next up was a sow. i was sneaking along another creek and i spotted a mob laying under some trees. it was noisy as and i didn't get much closer when they spooked but this sow wondered what the noise was and came over to investigate. bad move! see stopped when she saw me but it was to late. the arrow was gone. the shot was about 13m.
then we hunted some swamps the next week. i just got to the swamps after an early morning 4km walk when i spotted a mob of black things headed out into the bush. i quickly caught up with them and got into position. i had a boar walk past me inside 15m and i was getting ready to shoot when they spooked a little. not sure why as they didn't hear, see or smell me.
they wondered off a little ways, maybe a hundred yards and they settled again and started browsing as they moved. patience won the day and i was able to get in again on a boar. he walked broadside at about 12m and i went through my shot routine again and watched the arrow pass through him.
i was tickled pink! man i felt deadly with that thing in my hands. it was great.
gear used was my bob lee takedown 69#@28" with 930gr gold tip arrows and blackstump heads. "like a hot knife through butter!"

The degree of satisfaction gained from the accomplishment of a goal is directly proportional to the hardships and challenges overcome in order to achieve it.

The broadhead used, regardless of how sharp, is no where as important as being able to place it in the correct spot....!
