Suggestion for a new rabbit hunting strategy:

a) Take lots of arrows
b) Lob them all from a position approx 80m from the warren!
c) Check for a bit of random luck...

the first rabbit I ever saw with a bow was a bizarre event.

I was staying at a resort in the barossa valley on a corporate weekend and took a bow because thats what I do.

rocked up, unpacked, found an archery range compleat with target butts!!
did the work events for the day, about 5pm skipped the pre dinner drinks and went to throw some arras. on the walk towards the range, blow me down with a feather there is a bunny chomping away! nocked an arrow, took my shot, missed by 3 feet !!

I can only imagine that the range doesn't get much use!

Amen. Little, tricky rascals. One day my arrow will connect on one...
It's the great, big, broad land 'way up yonder,
It's the forests where silence has lease;
It's the beauty that thrills me with wonder,
It's the stillness that fills me with peace.

I don't seem to be having the problems you guys are, I think maybe the bunnies up here are uneducated or have a high percentage of domestic stock in there genes cause they're thick as bricks.
They all live in or on the edge of town (haven't seen one out in a padock yet) so they are used to cars, people, the sounds of industry and even dogs to some degree.
I have a couple of places I'm alowed to take advantage of this situation and it's not unusual to drive into a point, step out of the car and have half a dozen targets within 50 meters to choose from.
But having said that we don't really get a twilight up here, so you only get about 20 minutes between when they come out and when it's too dark to see them or you arrow for that mater.

So this is what I did, and it worked a treat. Bought my self some "fireknocks", and a really really bright small torch. Mounted it on my bow and off I went to the spot mentioned above.
To my disapointment only spoted one rabbit disapearing into some cover as I pulled up, got out of the car and walked the 250 meters of access track I'm alowed to hunt and didn't see another one until almost back to the car. It was totaly dark by now so had my torch on and spoted him about 50 meters away. I started to walk toward him to get range down to a reasonable 20 meters, but halaluya brothers and sisters he'd seen the light and wanted to be closer to God and briskly hoped straight toward me and stoped about 6 meters away presenting the perfect shot which I gladly accepted.
One shot one rabbit, thats the way 8) .

Here's the rig. The torch is a "Sunwayman T20CS"; 658 lumens, effective range of 278meters  .
If you can get close enough you can half cook them before you shoot them  .

After I'd seen the light my self brother, I was filled with heavenly inspiration and what I needed seemed to just apear before me like a marical. Made it from an old electric razor pouch and a piece of stuby cooler in true Aussie style,  does the job nicely and it fits most of my bows.
