An even quicker hunt

#1 Post by hazard » Sat Jun 30, 2012 10:26 pm

Managed to get out for another quick hunt today, We set out at a leisurely 8.30 am to a very foggy morning.
As it turns out this was a wise move as the wild life also had the same idea. Either that or they were all snap frozen and had to thaw out.

We picked the direction and then made our way to the various probable places in the hope of seeing game.
Busted right off the mark by a mob of goats 300 yards from the car  We wrote them off for the time being as they were too high and were wise to us.

Much to our surprise there wasn't all that much sign as we walked and thought we would come out empty handed as we stalked through all the silent bush.
On the return we decided to loop around and see if the goats that busted us on the way in were still in the area. As it happens they were not far at all from where we saw them.

Kev insisted I take the first stalk and reluctantly I agreed they were on another rise about 100 yards ahead and on the other side of a fence so I had to back track go over and sneak through the gully lining myself up with as much of the tree line as I could and close the gap. everything went quite well and Kev devoured his lunch while watching my progress.

I got within 20 metres but was fixed on 2 billies one at about 25 metres and the other about (the biggest)35 metres I guess when they got the idea something wasn't right and stared me down for a couple of minutes. The big one decided to casually walk over the next rise.

The the one at 25metres seemed to present me with a quartering away shot I felt comfortable with, an considering the other goats were getting a bit flighty I thought I would take this one. Well all I can say is I drew the bowpicked the perfect spot and flinched like a Ba$tard!!!! The arrow harmlessly hit a dirty great rock and the goat did a circle on the spot and looked at the goat nearest in a disgusted "Did you Fart?" look and kept on grazing.

After disgracing myself so clumsily :surprised: I Fortunately got my finger out and re-knocked. and methodically again went through the launch sequence with the mental note to self not to flinch and the arrow made its mark perfectly bringing the goat down about 6 foot from where I hit him.

By this time all the others were so distracted by the antics from where I was and Kev made up his ground on the other side of the fence where all the mob were gathering fixed on me and their fallen mate.

Kev let rip and nailed one from about the same distance or more from what I could see, it bolted about 30 feet and expired. This one had a really nice coat

We trudged back the remaining distance to the car to see another 2 mobs of goats on the other side of the river and satisfied this place did have prospects especially later in the day  Chuffed we both got a billy.

The broadhead used, regardless of how sharp, is no where as important as being able to place it in the correct spot....!

love the hat matey....reminds me of the Dukes of H......
I reckon the first goat thought he was in luck and was hanging around to have a feed on yer hat.

Pity the beasties have not evolved with a bright gold spot a bit behind and above the shoulder.....would make it easy on old flinching farts.

Good fun boys. well done

It was a Buzz and even Kevin Daley said the experience is addictive! How do I get a job doing this?

Once you press the 'post reply' button, highlight the text you want to quote (in the posts below) and then press the 'quote' button to the right of your highlighted text. Hope that makes sense.
