The Cascade Golden Hawk takes its first Goat

#1 Post by matt61 » Wed Jun 20, 2012 8:06 pm

I hunted this mob of goats over two afternoons. They were living in a thick patch of scrub and coming out of it to feed on the grassy fringes,on the first afternoon it took me about three hours to find the mob of about twenty goats, just as they were heading back into thick scrub to bed down for the night. As I could see that they were feeding along,I looped ahead of them and got into a good position to ambush them, but as I watched them from about one hundred meters they started to move in a direction that would take them past me just out of range. So I crawled across to another position that they would pass in range of and waited, but stuff me at fifty meters they changed back to the original direction toward the first position I had been in and all wandered in and started to bed down for the night all around where I would have been standing. As I was to far away to take a shot and the sun had gone down and light was fading fast,I just stayed hidden until it was dark enough for me to sneek away without disturbing them, vowing to be back at that spot the next evening as I had good idea that they bedded there every night. The next afternoon I was back in the area about an hour before sunset looking for the mob and spotted them feeding slowly back toward the same bedding spot. This time I got into a well hidden spot right in the middle of where they had bedded the night before and shot this young nanny for the pot at about ten meters.

The broadhead used, regardless of how sharp, is no where as important as being able to place it in the correct spot....!

Thanks for the replies fella's,the leaf suit works really well, the rest of the mob stayed only about thirty meters away while I took the photo's and only bolted when I told them to bugger off .
These photo's are from about three years ago and I have nocked over quite few more critters with that bow and other trad bows that I have before then and since.I have shot trad bows almost exclusivly for the past fifteen years,I dabled in the dark side late last year and shot one billy goat and two rabbits with a wheelie bow,but hav'nt touched it since it's just not me..keep watching I have lots more photo's to show and stories to tell.

Nice work Matt,
where did you get that bow mate,I am only asking because I sold one of them a few years back and was wondering if that was it.
I seem to remember it having darker looking wood though.
