Summer Trout Tales
I have made a decision to go fishing once a week at a local impoundment, mainly for R&R but also to try to get the Lake wired and fill the freezer. Yesterday was the second visit, the first one myself and 3 mates camped overnight but other than a hook up on a lure we didn't get any.
Well yesterday my Kiwi mate(recently retired) decided to go for a scenic ride on the bikes before hitting the lake for sunset. Paul has recently got his learners and is loving the freedom of motorcycles. I recently got a new motorcycle so am enjoying not buzzing around on the 250 Anyway we arrived at the lake at 5.30 pm and boiled the billy for a refreshing cuppa and got a couple of bait lines in. Both Paul and I then set about flicking lures along the shore to no avail.
Paul decided to cook up some sausages for our dinner while I checked the bait lines. I picked up mine to find it snagged, Hmmm. A bit of a tug and I noticed there was also a faint movement from said snag so of with the clobber and follow the line. Sure enough there was a nice pan size Rainbow on the line who had wrapped himself around a submerged log. The rest of the arvo was spent soaking up the serenity before heading home at 9pm. Cheers Steve

You fisherman are a keen lot; nice fish to.
I'm sure you are enjoying the Strom after the 250; they are supposed to be a very good and reliable bike.

Hi Jeff, I rode the Strom from Gympie home a couple of weeks ago, so far it is comfy, as economical as the 250 and plenty of power for me loaded up. SteveStickbow Hunter wrote:You fisherman are a keen lot; nice fish to.

Hey Jeff, I reckon all the rivers and streams will be full of Trout with the amount of rain we've had in the last few years. How does the second weekend in January sound for an outing?Jeffro wrote:thats a nice little trout Steve, makes me wonder if they have returned to the river where I used to get them.

Hi Jeff, I have met a few V-Strom owners(Stromtroopers) they call themselves and they are a special lot. I should fit in . SteveThey are very popular with a lot of the riders on a forum I belong to. It should last you for many years to come and hopefully take you on some great adventures.

Re: Summer Trout Tales
Hi steve lake Trout like the side of the lake where the wind is hitting the shoreline, the wind blows all the food that way or try surfaces lures of a night, thats when the big fellas are about I hope that helps you catch a few good luck.

Hey Kev, Have you been to the doctor about it? If I dont get weekends off I am going to enjoy my other days. 6-12 months left. Would you be interested in coming down and wetting a line next week?
Kev
Ahh thanks Kieth, we were fishing with the wind/breeze coming to shore but stopped lure fishing afterdark as we thought it was all over. I will try a surface lure next week There is also Bass in the lake so they would probably like the surface lure after dark too?Keith Lee wrote:Hi steve lake Trout like the side of the lake where the wind is hitting the shoreline, the wind blows all the food that way or try surfaces lures of a night, thats when the big fellas are about I hope that helps you catch a few good luck.

Morning All.
The bad thing about Fishing is that the best time coincides with the best time for photos ... makes for big decisions.
Then again it provides excuse for playing around with photos late in the evening and long exposures.

Over the last few days I have been thrashing the water of the Noosa in search of Flathead - I have found some however they have been both small and far between.Hey Graydon, maybe you have a suggestion on the appropriate fly for the job? Wet fly perhaps? Steve

Dont care what fence you claim is the purest "Worms still kick ar$e!!"
Meps and Celta's are pretty good too.

The audio cassette nymph is a great wet fly and fine with Carp.
The green one I dont know what to call but I was told by an expert fly Tyer at the Sydney Fly Fisherman Club it wouldn't work but as it turns out it is one of my first choices even on Bream, dunno why I think it just catches fish to spite the tossers
Wooly bugger with a brass bead at the front, A guide at Armidale ( forgot his name) showed me this one in olive and brown with gold ribbing but Black and White works just fine (the black and white is old stockings my wife had) Sorry LB you cant borrow em!
Last but not least the dry works just about everywhere, I have been told Bream even take them but I havent caught one on this one yet.

The black and white stockings are no good to me anyway, they'd clash with my shoes
Re: Summer Trout Tales
Hello Steve
Is your new bike a good on the dirt trails?
Was your 250 OK on the highway?
I know the Harleys aren't very fuel efficient but they are better than a car. Doesn't matter about the harley anyway, The guy never rang me back so I assume he was full of Sheet.
Your local dam looks good.

Re: Summer Trout Tales
Hey Mark, The new bike is fine on the dirt, wouldn't be any good on tight stuff or very rough stuff but I only need it for forests and munching miles.
The 250 does 120kph but is revving but even short trips 150ks feel like an adventure. Both bikes get 23-25 klm/litre
I got another trout on monday but the rain was to heavy for pics.
Come for ride . Steve

Hey Steve
I have been looking at the SUZUKI DR650SEV on line gets good reviews.
Scares me with no kick start though.
They say the seat is very hard

Re: Summer Trout Tales
hey Mark, They are a well regarded bike for simplicity and reliability. Yeah a couple of hours in the seat on the road and you will be feeling it but off road due to standing up/moving your weight around it doesn't seem to matter. You can wear padded cycling pants under your gear.
I wouldn't worry about not having a kick starter, you just have to stay on top of battery maintenance ie charge or ride regularly and replace every 3 years for $65. I believe you can get kickstarter kits for them though. Steve

Re: Summer Trout Tales
Yeah big single cylinder that's probably why they have the electric start.
