I flew up to Brisbane last weekend and caught up with Dad for a couple of days. The week before he had some success on the Whiting of the beach at Inskip point( where the ferry crosses to Fraser Island) so I was keen to have a go, having not been salt water fishing for some 5 years.
We pumped for some yabbies on the inlet side of the point.

Then head over to the beach where we had to run across the sand to avoid burning the soles of our feet.

Dad couldn't identify any gutters that had yield whiting the week before so we had to just have a go randomly. I did,t get any pics of the action but after a razzing from dad from 20 meters away for letting the first 2 Dart go thinking they were small we got into the groove and caught a dozen more over an hour.

Now this is the first time I have caught fish of the beach. We used light gear and waded out 5 meters and cast another 10-15 meters. I also had success for the first time with soft plastic lures on the Flathead in the Ballina river on the way home so was buzzing with my new found fishing skills .
Any way the Dart were very tasty, scaled and coated with a mix of curry powder, corn flower and dill. Served with fresh garden salad and corn.

Hardly ever fished the surf and the few times I did found my estuary gear wasn't crash-hot there, and then got sandblasted by windblown sand, which kept stuffing up my cast.Guess I'm not cut out for it, but you had a ball and caught a feed to boot.Great.

Yeah my previous experience in the surf has been the same Bob but the conditions were quite calm for the most part and we could see the schools of Dart swimming by. It did get rough when the wind changed and the fishing went off and we were getting hammered by the waves so quit. Early calm mornings or late afternoons would be ideal if the conditions calm down. Yeah, those that do it by choice and often, must be some sort of machoscists me thinks. Never eaten dart but like most fish anyway, though for some reason prefer the dryer fleshed types such as trevally. Absolutely love the pilchards commonly used for bait. Strong flavour but yummy.

Thanks Guy, The beach was great and about 5 years since I have been for a swim in the surf. I hope you are getting some time off? A happy worker is a productive worker . Steve

Bikes going well, I am looking forward to getting out on it for a trip. I have the spare bike if you feel like coming for a ride?

I was actually thinking of buying a bike. My hilux is costing heaps and the klm's are adding up fast.
I was looking at getting a harley davidson, My old boss knows a guy who knows a guy who is selling an electra glide for 10 grand but i have not heard back from him as of yet. Might be a bit of a bull c*#p story.
But a road trail might be better suited to my type of life style. I had one years ago and loved getting out bush with it. I didn't do overnighters like you though. How do you find the extra gear strapped to the bike?

As for going for a ride with you I would love to.

Hey Mark, I dont know if Harley and the word economy go hand in hand but they are fun to cruise on.
The big bike carries the load easily but the 250 you do notice it. Easy enough to handle and still gets up to 110klm.
I have set myself up pretty well since my first outing last year with light hiking gear so the load is nowhere near as big .
