The Kimberly Ginger
Hi All
Haven't been here for a while,my shoulder was not up to archery but after many cortisone shots and rest we went over to Broome for my sons annual pighunt on 1.9 million acres. Eight days getting up at 4.30 and hunting the washouts. Then coming back to camp around 11 am,having a feed and relaxing in the river, mind you there are salties and freshwater sharks in the river so we washed and played in the rapids. The first few days i missed everything i stalked up on and some shots were less than 10mtrs. I put that down to the memory of the shoulder and expecting the pain. After then my confidence slowly returned and i started to place my arrows where they should be.In the afternoons we simply drove around to the bores or dams and shot at them wallowing,my young fella took some great footage on the video and backed me up with the .308 We got out to the edge of the Great Sandy Desert on one day,and there are pigs there,
And some big Mickies
One morning we counted over 50 pigs and i was lucky enough to have a great stalk on this Kimberly Ginger
The shot was taken at around 25 mtrs, downhill using one of Greg James take down re curve 55lbs. My first shot went low and hit a branch smack on,i knew i had to just go over the top but it wasn't to be.It worked out good because he then jumped up but didnt have a clue where i was and his fate was sealed and he moved only 10 mtrs and could not move ,i then dispatched him with a shot behind his ear.My best boar to date, not big in the tusks as most are,nt out there but at around 100+kgs worth every bit.

Awesome!
It's the great, big, broad land 'way up yonder,
It's the forests where silence has lease;
It's the beauty that thrills me with wonder,
It's the stillness that fills me with peace.

Re: The Kimberly Ginger
Sounds like a fantastic trip Gary. Nothing worse than an injury that holds you back. Fantastic hog too.
Re: The Kimberly Ginger
Looks like a great trip, good boar, great photos.
Re: The Kimberly Ginger
Awesome looking boar.
Common sense; so rare it should be considered a superpower.
Re: The Kimberly Ginger
ripped ears and a big unit.what a beauty
Re: The Kimberly Ginger
Hey thanks everyone,Wayno good luck up the Cape. There are a few spots up there i would love to get back to,could,nt hunt them before cause i was working and wasnt allowed.I have some more photos of the damage pigs do to one another but i think that to publish them would give the anti hunting crew some ammo. The damage this pig had from fighting was horrendous and he was a big pig so we did him a favour

Re: The Kimberly Ginger
Great boar and even better photos Gary. That little range in the fourth photo is interesting, it looks like it has a 'high water mark' 2/3rds of the way up it. Looks like hard country but very scenic all the same. Glad you recovered from injury enough to get back to hunting.
Cheers.........Rod

Re: The Kimberly Ginger
Very nice Hog Gary.... Do you come across many coloured pigs up that way...?
Did the feed of Cherapin last long...?
Cheers Guy..

The broadhead used, regardless of how sharp, is no where as important as being able to place it in the correct spot....!
Re: The Kimberly Ginger
Guy....most pigs they tell me in the kimberly are ginger.I did see a couple spotty ones but only one giant of a pig which was all black, he met his fate with the aid of a .308.The cherapin just kept coming the whole time i was there 2 to 3 ltrs at a time every time we cast the net.The manager said he had never seen them in numbers like that for so long I froze a heap and my young bloke is sending them over as well as the many scarlet seaperch i caught
