Chilly morning walk...Part 2

#1 Post by blu-dog » Sat Aug 20, 2011 11:04 am

Rod and I decided to brave the cool weather again at dawn this morning...3 degrees as we parked the car. :P

I had been chatting to the property owner on Thursday night and he had faxed a mud map to me on Friday with the location of cow that had died calving.

He was spot on...unfortunately, as Rod and I were looking for the carcass, we didn't spot the lone boar(approx 55kg), 50m to our right until it was too late. Luckily, he wasn't overly spooked and just meandered his way off into the wattle, even stopping to look back in our direction for a while. We tried to follow up on him, but he managed to elude us....THIS TIME! Fingers crossed, he'll be heading back to the carcass for an easy feed again!

We then headed to the bamboo clumps 2.5 km away (back near where the car was parked) - as we were checking out the various stands of bamboo, we found some of the best pig sign we have spotted so far on the property; well worn pads, hair caught in the barbed wire fences, heaps of tracks, fresh wallows and heaps of dug up ground! It may be time to set up a game camera here to see if we can pattern their movements! Stay tuned!!!!!

PS - we didn't cross the creek this morning - so no cold toes were experienced! (I know many of you would be worried about Rod's delicate tootsies)

There was plenty of pig hair caught in the barbed wire fence in this particular area.

The best trophies I can hope to acquire as a husband, father, friend or hunter are MEMORIES!
They will travel with me wherever life's path leads...

Yeah, I'm always safe, Dodger...there are benefits to having a head as bad as mine, Bud! :)

Tell ya what, Rod. I'll leave 'em outside me door as long as you stay outta me room, deal? You can put 'em on in the middle of the night and prance around the bathroom in 'em, admiring yourself in the mirror...a bit like that bloke who enjoyed sewing for a hobby did in "Silence of the Lambs", ok? :D

Anyway...moving right along ( I really wish we had a trembling, scared little icon bloke!)...that land seems to be showing real potential, hey boys?
