New Zealand Hunt ~ Photos

#1 Post by gundy » Sat Mar 26, 2011 2:46 pm

Well, no doubt the others will either chime in here with their photos or start separate threads; but here are some of mine. As far as the trip went, it was simply fantastic! I have never enjoyed a hunt so much as this one. Doc was a fantastic host and I would not hesitate to go back and hunt that gorge country again. The four of us all got game on the ground as an added bonus. The legs don't agree however! I did not want to come home. Enjoy... :D

Oh yeah, customs love me! :lol:

WOW and WOW again! That is incredible looking country! Great photos, too. I can see why you didn't want to come home, Guy. From the looks of your pics, there is game galore.

Not too bad mate. But Doc did say we had 'out of ordinary' weather. It was quite warm during the day - too warm if I was honest.

Here you go mate (I think I am correct);

Guy - Black Widow PCH / Gold Tip Carbons
Phill - Pronghorn 3pc / Gold Tip Carbons
Jason - Assenheimer 3 pc / Easton Alloys
Ben - Hill Longbow / Easton Alloys

I also took the PSE over (snigger) and took Turkeys, goat, rabbit and cat with that too....

Well-done, all you blokes! Happy for ya!
It's the great, big, broad land 'way up yonder,
It's the forests where silence has lease;
It's the beauty that thrills me with wonder,
It's the stillness that fills me with peace.

Darren, yep, fixed the floor... :)

Agree on the Turkeys. I reckon they are like Ninjas. I was spotted from 600 yards away with one mob, proceeded to follow them up after they went over a rise and upon reaching the spot I had last seen them, they were nowhere to be seen...I spent 10 minutes glassing the back side grassy flats looking for them, and then went to move off when 8 or so Turkey Ninja Birds erupted from every bush around me scattering in every direction making these 'cluck - cluck' sounds... :D

Ever seen a sweaty 40 year old scramble for an arrow from his quiver whilst doing an Irish tap dance at the same time? I am sure it would have looked very funny....

Similar experience with customs...NZ end was a full unpack and show n tell, but the copper was a hunter and showed a lot of interest - he even got us a taxi. The wee little customs bio man was good enough to clean my very muddy boots for me... ooops! Never gave it a thought....he was ok however...

Coming back into to Brissy, we struck a trainee customs girl who went through all the paces. Her Supervisor watched and was more than interested in our Turkey stories. Overall, a great trip and I will definitely be back after those Ninja birds with the Trad gear...

I did not try Paul. Jason did and they went through no problems I believe...

I have just figured out that my focus settings on my camera adjusted half way through the trip...so I have around 50 out of 200 photos that did not work out. Not happy... :(

i brought home 8 flight feathers from my turkey that i'm going to fletch up a footed shaft with to hang on the wall .
customs did not even bother looking at them in melbourne they just looked at my boots and bow then told me to have a good day.
i will be flying air new zealand both ways next time archery equipment is not restricted you get a meal and a movie it was so much easier than the change over going via bissy.
if i can figure out how to done size my photos i will put more up.

Cheech, download Google Picasa - its free and you can export your photos to a smaller size, then upload them after that. Or email to me and I can do.

Hinds (& fallow does) were fine but no stags were to be shot on the property. There was a 1500 acre fenced area and I would hate to think of how much the stags were in there (monsters!).

I had a red hind pull up 15 yards in front of me, broadside and looking away - but I was stalking turkeys, so did not shoot. I have no real interest in shooting deer where the meat would not end up in my freezer!
