Went Hare and there for a hunt
Gidget rang me this arvo to see if i wanted to go for a shot at his target on a local cane farm with him and Blu-dog ,and have a look for a hare or two,of coarse i said yep,so they came and picked me up , we got to the farm and were having a few shots at the targets when we spotted a couple of hares about a hundred yrds or so away in an open area,so Paul put in a stalk but but they were on the ball so didn't get a shot, anyway to cut a long story short,we went for a walk around the cane when we spotted a hare 70 or so yrds away ,sitting about 10yrds out in the open, the boys told me to have a go ,so i walked down two rows in,in the cane, got to where i thought he was sitting crossed into the next row and could see him sitting quartering away looking up towards the boys and didn't know i was there, the cane was higher than me,i drew back shot and the limbs hit the cane so i thought i missed ,but the arrow went in in front of the back leg and came out the back of his lung on the opposite side,so it was over in seconds,so i'm rapt, he was my first longbow hare and another Gringa bow blooded ...thanks guy's for a top afternoon.................oh yeah my photographer will put pics on

Re: Went Hare and there for a hunt
Was a great shot to watch...Gidget and I sat at the end of the headland and watched the shot and impact through the binos! He didn't go too far at all...
The best trophies I can hope to acquire as a husband, father, friend or hunter are MEMORIES!

Re: Went Hare and there for a hunt
Well small game doesn't mean small stalks & small effort. For every one of these frustrating little buggers you get, you have blown a dozen or more stalks.
I still rate these highly strung individuals as the most frustrating game I have hunted. Blu-Dog & I watched an earlier stalk of Rods where a hare run straight past him & then along the cane, the big fella took a shot as it passed & some how this thing side stepped the arrow as it was running away
I kid you not, if you don't witness it with your own eyes, you don't believe it. Forget you deer, these things suck even more Well maybe not that bad, but not far from it.
Both the Rod, blu-dog had blown a few stalks & had a few shots, the hares seamed liked they were every where today, not to mention a little brazen.
SO to cut my dribble down, I will cut to the chase, Blu-dog was off chasing another hare that had given us the slip, as Rod & I walked along a freshly planted Soy-bean paddock, when Rod says, you reckon that is a hare over there, or just a big rock ?
Geez mate, I don't know I replied, so I busted out the Bino's for a look.
Sure as Eggs it was hare, seamed like a big one form back there. So Rod was sent on his way, while the Dog & I took up a comfy spot at the top of the headland to see what would happen. We were both viewing this hare through Bino's saying, any time now would should see an arrow come flying out & clean this hare up
Sure enough not a few minutes later as we both were looking through the bino's this hare erupts from it's little nest in the dirt with an arrow swing mealy by the knock & starts to run in our general direction. Although 150 metres away, it was like we were only 30 metres as we watched it all through the bino's
It finally ditched the arrow & headed for the cane.
Both Blu-Dog & I knew once they hit the cane, these blasted things get tough to recover. With Rod loosing sight of the hare on release, he had actually gone after another hare thinking it was the one he hit. SO the Dog & I located the arrow & started to track the blood trail. The trail seamed lighter than we had been expecting from what we had witnessed. But it only took a couple of minutes & the news was good.
I let out a cheer & a whoop-de-doo as I located Mr Hare 3 rows in
Hand shakes & congratulations were passed around, I was buzzing after watching Rod take his 1st long bow hare
The dog had a couple more chances on the return to the car for pics, but it didn't go his way.
So anyway, enough of my babbling, here is a couple of pics of the mighty Lb Rod 55 & his 1st long bow hare.

Hi Gidget and Rod, I believe they use a Scotch Predator call (black tube that you pull backward and forward). I believe they are more responsive during mating season but worth a try .

Congratulations!
It's the great, big, broad land 'way up yonder,
It's the forests where silence has lease;
It's the beauty that thrills me with wonder,
It's the stillness that fills me with peace.

Well Pete,it is ASAT,A-Sexy-As -Threads.....................
Re: Went Hare and there for a hunt
More info for you fellas - that shirt didn't actually contribute to Rod's camouflage... he only put it on due to his modesty for the photos...
It was a warm, balmy afternoon yesterday so Rod was hunting in a pair of red, satin boxers...he reckons the satin doesn't make any unnecessary noise during the stalk and is nice and smooth so he doesn't experience nasty chafing.
