Weekend hunt comes together

#1 Post by wayoutwest » Mon Nov 01, 2010 8:56 pm

It was decided on wednesday to go up north for a quick hunt, we were to leave friday arvo after work and come back sunday arvo, i've done it before and without a hitch. This trip was looking the same until half way up i remembered my quiver, to late to turn back id have to improvise.
So a roll of tape a bottle of water, a bottle of ice coffee, a length of rope and a foot an ahalf bit of wood had me a side quiver.
Also to make things worse i forgot to pack extra arrows. Saturday morning sees me out at a mill with a dodgy quiver and five arrows for a day and half hunt.

Sitting about 200 hundred meters of the mill i could see a mob of about 60 goats coming in to water glassing over the mob there was nothing big so i decided to go for some dog meat the owner asked me to get, after the mob watered and started to move of i quickly scrambled across the iron ston hill to get in front of them after a bit of luck and bein a bit tinny i was in the path of the quickly movin goats, one billy was silly enough to give me a broadside so i slip a magnus tipped Easton Legacy alloy 2018 out of my 57#@28inch Blackwidow PLX longbow, He ran only a few meters and dropped, a pretty good way to start the trip. After i got his legs i headed back to the mill to wait for me old man and have a few beers.
Sunday i decided to sit on a mill and see what was hangin about, lucky for me there were a few with death wishes.
All in all what was looking like a real sucky trip turned out ok.

You can see the quiver in the pics

Luke..

Shooters get to 50m to shoot, but only a hunter gets inside 20m to hunt.

Talk about making lemonade out of lemons, well done! I flew to Darwin last weekend with a grand total of 3 broadheads, the rest sitting on the bed at home, right where I left them, whoops!

Hats off to ya! Funny how often something you have quickly decided on and put together works out better than the times you put heaps of planning and prep into huh? A bit like nights out when I was a young bloke. Plan and anticipate and it turns out a dud... but drop into the pub for a quiet one on your way home from work on a Friday arvo and end up having the "Lost Weekend" of your life! :D

Seems in this case, you were enjoying the same dynamic as described above!

I admire your improvisational skills with the quiver, too! :D
Lately, if life were treating me any better, I'd be suspicious of it's motives!

Great goats there Luke. Looks pretty dry over there, its still raining of and on over this way and the hunting has been very slow all year.

Congradulations on the goats great photos.

Good on ya, Luke! Way to go!
It's the great, big, broad land 'way up yonder,
It's the forests where silence has lease;
It's the beauty that thrills me with wonder,
It's the stillness that fills me with peace.

tjensen wrote:Great photos! Good job on the quiver, you better put a patent on it or you'll see it for sale in the 3 rivers catalogue! I once did a red deer hunt in my slippers because I forgot my hunting boots

Probably a pair of those yowie ones and the locals are still scratching their heads.

Good hunt and pics Luke. Mate the quiver is a pearler, love it!
