Steve, very sorry but I meant to send you a message over the weekend.

This was posted Friday afternoon so you should see this in the next day or so. Very sorry for the delay.

Not only did we have the initial flood to contend with at work but since we have been shoulder to the grindstone refitting and trying to catch up with the backlog of work.

Thanks mate for your patience.
Cheers

I have finished with the DVD and I am ready to send it to the next person.

Thank you to the person that donated it to the collection

I am not much good at keeping my mouth closed and I have a few comments to make in regards to this DVD.

Positive
The presenter makes a good explanation of how to follow the patterns made by the growth rings on the belly.

Negative
The presenter states on a number of occasions that "tillering is simply removing the wood from the bow". My experiences indicate there is so much more.

He tries to make the top limb longer by 1" by moving the centre line of the handle down 1". This makes for a 2" difference between limbs.

The tiller in his holmgard bow is whip tillered. As I understood it the holmgard is designed to have a working portion on the inner limb and stiff outer limbs. He matches the tiller of a holmgard to a longbow and states that it is OK to match the tiller of one bow design to the tiller in a bow of different design. Differently designed bows need to be tillered appropriately.

Confusion may come as the presenter switches between a small yew bow and the maple holmgard bow.

My major beef is that there is little information and demonstration of the tillering process. If you are planning on learning how to build a bow from this video you will need other resources also. The worst part is that the presenter clams on several occasions that he has thoroughly gone through the process.

Now I could have kept my mouth shut but I feel that it is important to point these things out as a learning bowyer that picks up this DVD may be a bit disillusioned. There are other points that I noted down, however I decided that these were probably methods of building that are up for discussion.
