Carbon shooters must watch!! how to find the stiff "side"

#1 Post by Fanto » Mon Oct 15, 2012 8:33 pm

This is an absolute must see. I didn't think much of it until I went and rotated the nocks on my arrows so that they are all tuned the same. They fly so much more consistently! I can't recommend this highly enough

wow, I had no idea... Are they designed to flex on one axis like this or is it just a quirk of the manufacturing process?

i dont know if it is relevant to all brands of carbon arrows , as there may be different manufacturing processes involved , he was talking specifically about grizzly sticks .
Another way i have seen is to plug both ends of an unfletched shaft with nocks , before the insert is glued in , and float them in a tub of water and see which is the heavier side of the arrow which will always drop to the bottom side

as for the question if all carbons are like this?

all my GoldTips are. I remember this from talking to a fishing rod builder. Carbon fishing rod blanks always have a stiff side.

the 5575s were less noticeably weaker on one side compared to 3555s where is was really obvious and made a big difference.

cheers

Not all but most carbons have this heavier side due to the manufacturing process. It does indeed leave a spine on the shaft and it is desirable to find it and fletch shafts accordingly.Makes a big difference to accuracy.
