may your arrows fly straight and true and your limbs return.
Re: Forging medieval bodkin arrowheads.
About six or seven years ago my sister returned from a study tour in Europe (vet science)and gave me a gift of a very old bodkin arrow head.
In the picture it's the one on the left with the words in french (I think) and if I've translated them correctly, "Point of an Arrow, Iron age, 14th Century.
So with receiving this and watching something, either a dvd or youtube on medieval iron work, I was inspired to have a go.
So with the assistance of my son holding the Oxy torch we hammered out these from a piece of 3/8" rod. Mind you it was a bit of work to achieve these rough models but all in all it was fun and a big learning curve,. (get a forge)

Hi Bill.
I am impressed. Look much better than my attempts.

Morning Bob.
After spending a few hours at the Forge destroying stuff I suggest that they are a lot more than well.
After one day I was serious looking at making some dies so you could "press" the shape out using a hydraulic jack.
Well! Well! Shock....bigbob wrote:Great stuff.I can appreciate how much work they would have been, and they turned out very well!

I hear you Grahame! I once made a throwing axe by swedging down a ball pein hammer with an oxy set. It was lost in a canoe roll over in a flooded stream along with bows etc and my only heartache was the loss of that axe.
