Greybeard's Maple - Arrows Stiff

#1 Post by GrahameA » Wed Sep 28, 2011 4:39 pm

Afternoon All

Being Wednesday I went for my weekly field shoot with Geybeard today and after the shoot was over I did some filming of said bow in action.

Today Daryl had a new set of arrows and they are slightly stiffer than the ones he had before. So the natural frequency of the shaft is still wrong and when you watch the video you can clearly see this in that the end of the arrow has moved back and thus hits the riser. Note also that the arrow has been nocked a little low and thus their is no clearance between the archers hand and fletches - they hit. If the arrow had been nocked a little higher the fletches would have clear the .hand. The shaft however does clear the hand. In Flight the arrow does look quiet reasonable.

I have more videos and will post them later - after I have looked at them and cut out the rubbish.

You can certainly see the back of the arrow try and wrap around the bow. :surprised:

Hi All.

Another video as aprt of this.

This time the arrow was nocked low. Watch what the arrow does in flight. The fun part of doing this is whilst people talk about what arrows do in this case you can see it.

Man all those shots of Daryl were very cool. I found it interesting where the arrow starts spinning.

I don't know what distance and my eye sight isn't great for accurate detail but I did count 11 full turns before the arrow and the target fuzzed together.

The spine of the arrow as it leaves the bow and how the fletches react was really good detail, you must have some really fancy kit!

Daryls arm didn't seem to move at all regardless of the undulation of the bow.

Hazard

Oh yeah, nice form Daryl and very smooth release

Morning.

The arrow starts to spin as soon as it leaves the string. With arrows that are helically fletched say with 4" feathers the amount of rotation is noticeable as the arrow clears the riser.

The distance is around 15 yards.

No, not really. Just a camera that has the capability of shooting at higher frame rates. I understand that CASIO no longer makes the particular model I have (Ex-F1 Pro) but have a couple of new ones available. http://www.casio.com/products/Digital_C ... igh-Speed/

If you want a great slo-mo piece of kit speak to Ridley at Slow Motion Cameras Australia http://www.slowmotion.com.au/. However they are not cheap.

n.b. There was no agent in Australia selling Casio cameras so I purchased mine through a shop in Melbourne who had a Hong Kong agency (or the reverse).
